3-Way rod question

When I am vertical or dragging jigs, I like to three way back up river. I end up laying them down on top of my rod lockers, my upright rod holders don`t do the trick.

How do you keep your 3-way rods from becoming a tangled mess and being in the way?

I use a snap on the 3 way to the dropper, unhook it when not in use. It only takes a second and saves alot of time not haveing a mess.

    Tom,

Try using an Offshore clip. Put the clip on your dropper line just above the weight and include the other line. If no extra clips try a twist tie. Run it through the eye of the weight and wrap twist tie around your rod.

I use split shots for weight and pinch them off and put the hook in an eye.

Hey Tom, Besides taking your dropper weight off, A trick I use is to clip your snap or coast-loc to either your very last eye (foot)or clip it on your hook keeper, located in front of reel seat. then grab the center of the line you just clipped and hold the rod by the handle and give the rod 2 or 3 twists this will keep you line against the rod and prevent tangles……. “Hairjig”

I just hook the lure into the the keeper loop(just above the handle) and then spin the weight portion around the rod and all other lines. When you need it just unspin weight and unhook the bait from the keeper and your good to go. Works good for me, but I am just learning this 3-way thing.

    Tom,

I tend to have a cross-lock snap at the end of my dropper line. That snap allows me to change weights easily based on depth and speed. During a typical day of 3-waying with cranks in the winter, I may end up fishing 3-4 different weights, ranging from 1.5 oz up to 4 oz. The clips make it easy to change weights without having to retie.

If I’m concerned about lines getting tangled when running from spot to spot, I just take the weight off and close the snap (important). That little length of dropper line tends to be pretty well behaved and not get all wrapped up with the other rods.

I am basically set up the same way with snap to dropper weight. But after loosing 3-way rigs to zebra mussels I started using about 3 foot of flourocarbon on the end of my braid then my 3-way. Flouro handles the mussels better. So my issue becomes a 3 foot flouro 3-way roughly 5 feet to crank rods 8 & 5 foot. Take the 18 inches off for handle and reel seat my rods get too short. In winter I change up reels on my shorties from lead core to braid (dual use ) they are a real issue.
