Recovering photos from damaged memory card?

It appears something happened to my SD card for my digital camera. When I turn my camera on, “Memory card error” appears. The card will not work in my card reader either. My old computer recently crashed and burned so this memory card was the only location I still had these pictures. There are some pictures that are very important to me on this card. Does anyone know of a way to recover them?

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you ever used that? I was reading that a lot of the programs that you can download for recovry are scams. I’m a little leery.

The one I linked allows you to run a preview of your card to see what is recoverable before you buy the software. If you don’t see the images you’re looking for you aren’t out anything.

I use photo recovery software at work and you can usually get the images back. The scarey thing is that the first thing you do is format the card.

One thing I would look at before you do anything is to make sure that the little tab on the side is not in the lock position. I have had that happen to me before and never noticed it until I tried getting the pics off the card and it wouldnt let me. Just something to try

Just curious to know if you found anything that worked yet? and if so what worked? Wouldnt mind knowing in case it happens to me or someone else

I got a little lucky and was able to resurrect my old computer long enough to get most of my photos off of it. Now the only ones I am missing are from Christmas. I am going to see what pictures my sister can send to me from Christmas before trying anything with my card. It wasn’t the lock either – I had already tried that. I’ll post if I do try one of the recovery programs. Thanks for the input.

Glad to here you got most of your pics back. I had the same thing happen to me once. I try to keep very few pics on my camera because of this but I had three days worth of guiding on my camera and I went to download the pics off my camera and I had an error reading as well. I thought I was going to get sick, pictures are irreplaceable. I’ve never used a file recovery program so I just brought my card to a local photo shop and they put them on a CD for me. Might be something to try if you’d like your other pics back.

I had that exact feeling – I was literally sick to my stomach. All of my hunting and fishing pictures from the last 2 years were on that card. Luckily I got all of those back. I think I will take it to a camera shop if I need to get the rest back. I just don’t really trust downloading those programs.

Even I have faced this drastic situation once and fortunately Remo Recover saved me. I strongly feel this software as absolute solution to restore all types of pictures from a damaged memory card.
