OVERPAID WHINERS NO MATTER WHAT SPORTS TEAM THEY PLAY FOR. I sure don’t live and die for that. Now outdoor sports is another thing. Vikes will just blow it anyway, so i will blow my money on something that never disappoints, hunting and fishing

This is a copy/paste of a response I posted to this same question on another site.

    ……………………………………………………

    1. Most season tickets are corporate tickets, so the first offering for playoff tickets went to them.
Seldom if ever do companies buy playoff tickets.

    2. It wasn’t till there was less than 5 seconds left in the regular season that we knew if we would be in or out of the playoffs. Deposits for playoff tickets are tough to fork out with the economy the way it is and it being at Christmas.

    3. Since we won our way into the playoffs, we have had 2 snow storms that have been a major problem for getting around, plus most people are still involved with holiday plans that have been made for a long time. Many people will not order tickets thru Ticketmaster and pay the added charge. They go to the ticket office.

    4. Last but not least, it was about 6PM Sunday when we found out we were in. NFL rules state all tickets must be sold by 3PM Thursdays before games. As with many businesses, the ticket office will be closed for a day and a half for New Years, reducing the time to sell tickets even that much more, thus the extension to sell tickets.

Over half the tickets that were available when the game ended Sunday have been sold. The rest will sell and the game will not be a blackout. As of an hour ago, there were less than 8000 left, and the ticket office wasn’t even open!!

Another issue (I heard) was that season ticket holders had to renew to be able to buy playoff tickets. Season ticket renewals were only at 55%, that means that 45% of the diehard go to the game fans were blocked from buying playoff tickets.

    JLDII you forgot #5.

5: Regardless of the first 4 if Green Bay were in the EXACT situation tickets would be COMPLETELY sold out.

According to the article I posted the NFL granted an extension to 330 Friday January Second (Local Time) to sell the remaining tickets.

I can’t comprehend blasting “your team” (said neutrally) all season long for playing sub par and then turning your backs on them when they win their way into the play offs. Truthfully I think things like this is why some teams fans get a bad rep and Vikings fans have been no exception.

Not looking to start a fan war guys. Just totally blown away that a team has trouble selling tickets to a freaking play off game!

From what i have been reading and seeing on the net we are not the only game that is not sold out yet. besides maybe there are alot of people that dont care much for idiot athletes that make more in one game than i make in a year I would rather spend my money elsewhere

I’d love tickets but under present circumstances, I can’t justify the expenditure. My satisfaction in life doesn’t revolve around entertainment. If it were something I believe I’d never see again, I’d be a bit more tempted but I believe the Vikings will see more playoffs in the future and maybe I can better support them later. But let’s face it……….WI doesn’t have much else going for it, in pro sports, and there’s a large, finatical populous that also blows a large percentage of their weekly income on alcohol, which is a product proven to impair judgment. Of course they’d sell out!

Times are tough and I think people are having a hard time buying into the idea of stretching finances, that may not be there tomorrow, over a game or event that will never be the pinnacle of their lives experiences. Put them in home field, NFC Championship and the odds go up that the tickets will disappear quickly. Also, if it’s not about the money, why aren’t more Eagles fans jumping on the low air fares to come cheer their team? They claim they’d sell out at home too but look at the populus difference! There’s a lot more people out there!

Also, this year’s team resembles very little of the ’98 squad so “belief” is low. If we had a 12-4 or 13-3 record under one QB, I think the enthusiasm would be remarkably higher. Right now, we’ve seen a solid defense weakened by PW’s absence, a loss to a Falcons team we dominated, and a Giants team that was poised to hand us our butts had they not sub’d out the key play makers. We have a team, a decent one, and a great defense. Defense can win a SuperBowl……I remember when the Ravens proved that……but it’s not spectacular like a powerhouse offense. Unless you’re ahead, you always feel like your team is against the ropes, which doesn’t leave a lot of confidence from the fans.

Lastly, being stupid with your finances is no reason to feel like you’re a better fan. I’ll take the ridicule of the press if it means my bills are paid on time, credit protected, and food/shelter/warmth/clothing (needs) are not compromised over entertainment. America needs to quit criticizing fans and hear the wake up call. If this is a signal of our economic crunch, everyone is going to end up making adjustments because the amount of support required simply won’t be there.

This that you bring up, is my point in so many of these threads, I can’t believe you don’t get it yet. Viking fans, are smart fans. You can be a fan listening on the radio, watching on TV, local is not the only way to get the games, or go in person or god forbid, miss a game because your out hunting and hear about it on ESPN. I find it ridiculous, that a team that doesn’t really have that high of hopes of getting anywhere, would sell out in minutes… this to me is blind fans. Fans are gonna be lifted up and brought down by a team… a fan who refuses to accept that maybe the ticket is not worth the $$$$$ they are going to have to take from the table fare, is just a dumb blind fan and should not be praised for their actions. Mn fans are alot like Missouri… show me.

I wouldn’t go if I had free tickets and a limo picked me up, and yes I like football. They are a boring team, I’m sure that is why most of the season ticket holders didn’t buy playoff tickets. They’ve already watched 8 regular season and 2 pre-season boring games, why pay for more??

This has nothing to do with turning your back on your team. Now if everyone went fishing instead of watching or tuning into the game then I would said it’s fair game that you say we’re turning our back on the team.

I think there is a word missing from all of this thread….. PASSION!

Minnesotans do not have a passion for sports of any kind at any level. Actually, Minnesotans aren’t really passionate about anything. Just mild mannered middle of the road type people. The closest thing to passion you will ever see from a Minnesotan is watching people at the bar playing pull tabs! PATHETIC !!

Wow. Hit a sensitive spot huh? Hehe. Well I just kind of figured that having a play off game at home for the first time since 2000 would excite the “fans”. But hey, who am I to judge?

Jon, I agree about watching football on TV. I’ve been to games in Lambeau and would never give up a chance to go but there is something to be said about being at home. I’ve been to a game in the Humpty Dump too and surly cannot blame people for not wanting to go back there, lol. Of course the seats we had were behind some huge old support pillar so vision stunk.

That’s a pretty generalized statement to throw over 5 million people into don’t you think?

Sounds like someone is a little miffed they will be going fishing this weekend instead of watching their favorite 6-10 team!

One of the most dynamic players in the league in AP, as a Packer fan I currently admire him as my favorite player on another team, first home playoff game since 2001 and the game is blacked out. Man that is pathetic, what you fans need is this…..

    I have a question!!

If one has never faced a team…how could it be called turning your back on them?

I’m sorry, I just can’t get into football ever since Fran Tarkington retired. It’s never been the same.

That is just how Minnesota football fans are. They always have excuses. They don’t want to watch the game at dome. They will lose anyway. I have better things to do. Don’t want to get tickets because of the high paid athletes. I’m only a fan when things are good (and apparently they must need to be really good since making the playoffs is not good enough ). The best one of course is that they are “smart fans”(if they are so smart why are they Vikings fans?? ). These are reasons why Minneapolis is consistency considered one of the worst sports cities (which really has no importance). This is why Gopher Bowl games are on the NFL Network (I didn’t hear one person complain about this??). This is why IF the Gophers continue to improve they will always get worse bowls than Wisconsin, Iowa, or most other Big Ten teams because they don’t “travel well”. If the Vikings are looking for dedicated fans, they will have to move to another city.

If people don’t want to spend the money because they can’t afford it, I certainly can respect that. But from the number of people I see out shopping, seems like they could find enough people who could afford the game.

I am sure some company (like the local FOX) will step up and buy the tickets.

    HUH!?!?!

Packer Fans lobbing shots across the border are PATHETIC?!?! Let’s see…If my memory serves me correctly, All I heard two weeks ago from Viking Fan is how “I SUPPOSE we Vikings fans should root for the Packers (even though we hate them) because they are playing the Bears…yada, yada”.

Hey Vikings Fan, hate to burst your bubble…Packer Fan does not give much of a rip about any Packer vs Viking rivalry. The two main rivalies that matter to Packer Fan are Packers vs Bears and Packers vs Cowboys. Vikings barely register on Packer Fan’s radar.

I have to root for someone….. If not wanting to spend $100’s of dollars for tickets and parking, to watch a game, sitting in a plastic bulding, in a plastic seat, drinking $5.00/plastic bottle beer, makes me not smart… then I guess I want to be dumb….

Interesting that the Vikes aren’t on the radar but still seem to draw plenty of attention when the game isn’t sold out. I really wish one of you would start making some kind of sense. 6-10

Exactly why why should never build them a stadium, if you are going to blackout the games, after we give you our money to build a stadium.

    NEVER.

I could care less, the management of this team for years has only served to lose fan based and fan loyalty.

I only regret I won’t see the slaughter.
