Looking for a tractor part

Thought I’d post this up for my Dad. He’s got a 50’s Ford tractor. Not sure what the proper term for its size is, but it’s a good yard tractor, about the size of an S-10, and no cab. He’s been looking for a heater of sorts for it. He tells me this electric unit may connect to the block, or there are also heaters that actually go in the radiator hose and circulate the water to keep it/get it warm for starting purposes. Anyone know what he/I’m talking about? Any help would be appreciated, and I’m really hoping someone might be able to have a URL for one so I can show him. Thanks!

From the 50s it is perhaps a 8N or a 9N tractor. Great tractors by the way. A lower radiator hose heater works great on them. Hope this link helps.

If it’s just to aid in cold weather starting there are all kinds of magnetic block heaters he can get. And there used to be a heater that spliced into the lower radiator hose from Kat.

I would have to agree with Scenic .
Back in the days of the 8N or the 9N that was the way to keep them warm.I am not sure if they make block heater for that tractor.
The hose heater should work quite fine for his needs.

The magnetic block heaters I’m talking about are just that. A heater that attaches anywhere on the block with a magnet. Most are set to the oil pan to warm the oil.

Having had a 9N, the hose heater works well and aids in starting. Any TSC or Fleet Farm should have the part he needs. Also, Little Dearborn in Minneapolis has parts should the tractor need additional repairs.

My buddy has an old ford from the 60’s and he put in a lower rad hose heater and he can start it in -30c.

You can get the hose heater at Fleet Farm. I would definitely go with the hose heater over the magnetic heater. The magnetic heater heats the oil in the oil pan. The rest of the engine does not get heated very well. The hose heater heats the water which is in the entire engine.

Thanks to all of you guys! I do think that’s what he’s after. Your buddy can start his tractor in -30? That’s what I’m talking about! I’ll have him take a look at these and see what he says since I’ve never seen em before. We don’t have Fleet Farms down here, but we do have Orscheln’s and TSC. Don’t know if he’s been there or not to see if they have em, but I can always order online now.

Hey Trumar, with that link you attached that says “tank style heaters”, do those go in the radiator hose as well?

    Thanks again, it’s much appreciated.

Those were for the heater hoses but didnt realize it untill after I posted.I dont believe the 8 or 9 would have them as they are for a cab heaters.

No prob, thanks for the response. Keep in mind, I really don’t have much of an idea of what I’m talking about. Sounds easy enough though, and dad’s apparently on the trail, so we’ll see if we can’t get it figured out. Thanks again–
