I juat got a Brand new Strikemaster 224. And i picked up some Amsoil 100:1 sabre oil. SM recommends a 24:1 ratio. Do i mix that oil that rich? or lean it out some? Do i keep it rich for a break in period? How long is the break in period on these augers? Any information anyone has will be great. Thanks

Personally I run it by the book off the bat, maybe the 2-3 gallon of gas, as an internet mechanic that seemed good enough to me. I start mixing the amsoil thinner, I have a hard time bringing myslef to run 100:1 IIRC I’m somewhere in the 75:1 ballpark. Runs perfect.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of calling Amsoil to see what they say about it, but i figured i would get a good answer from the people that actually run the stuff. I know there are enough people on here than run the stuff and i was wondering what ratio they run. Thanks again for the info.

First off dont run Amsoil for your break-in its too slippery and the rings dont set as good.
just use 2 cycle oil for your first tank then switch to the Amsoil.
I’m kinda chicken and cant get myself to run it at 100:1 so I run mine at 60:1, but my auger calls for 40:1

I talked to strikemaster about the ratio between the 40:1 and the 24:1(which my auger recommends) They told me that pre 08 augers call for 24:1 and 08 and newer run 40:1. they told me after my warrenty runs out to swich to 40:1 as tecumseh will not warrenty the motor if you run anything leaner during the warrenty. It has to do with the emmission laws. but i will dump the gas from the tank and run strikemasters oil/fuel mix for the first tank then. Thanks for the info

    Just A heads-up
If you use Jiffy oil check the bottle, the new ones are pre measured for a 40:1 mix not 24:1
I’m not sure if Strikemaster is the same way with their oil,

Last night i sent an email to amsoil. This morning i called them. the guy i talked to said not to use amsoil for the break in period being it lubricats way better than conventional oil, then after the breakin period use an 80:1 ratio. This evening i got an email back from amsoil, which said to use a 50:1 for the breakin and then use the 100:1 after the breakin. Now i am confused

How many tanks of gas do you burn throught it for a break in period?

There is another advantage of owning a Strike Lite four stroke.
