First vehicle a 1954 Mercury only had 32,000 miles and paid $50 for it. Which I thought was high at the time.
    …. Needed tires.
I am along with James never have and never will buy a new vehicle.

Never owned a vehicle until I was out of college. Brand new 1977 Ford F-150 short box. 300 six cylinder, three on the tree. $3700 out the door Packed and moved to inner city Chicago only to find out they didn’t allow trucks on parkways (including Lakeshore Drive). Drove that road every day for 2 1/2 years 20 miles round trip and only got 1 ticket for driving a truck on a parkway

’84 Mercury Cougar. It had more engine than I needed (5.0 V8), and more electrical problems than I could deal with. The backlight on the digital speedometer would turn off when I turned on the headlights, and I had to check my speed with a flashlight. That got me pulled over a few times.

I kept fixing it and driving it until it left me stranded between Grand Island and Lincoln, NE, at midnight. On the walk back to Grand Island, I decided not to fix that piece of junk.

    Good times.

1950 Kaiser 4 door bought in leesville, La. while in the Army. It had 2 broken motor mounts, and after going around a corner, had to give the wheel a little opposit jerk to slide the motor back straight.

Oh my.. well my first wheels was a 1981 Suzuki GS550T motorcycle. The first car I bought myself was a 1984 Dodge Aries baby I tinted it out, put a huge stereo in it, air shocks on the rear (snowmobile/boat trailers made it do wheelies) Got rid of that for a 1987 Nissan Pathfinder, after that a 1993 Dodge Dakota. Got rid of that when I started working at the dealer, now I drive mostly current year Ram 1500’s or 2500’s depending on the season

I gave $450 in 1973 for a 1967 Pontiac Firebird 389 3 speed on the floor. Second gear synchronizers were bad but it would lay rubber for 1 1/2 city blocks grind it into second gear and take off. Third would peg the speedometer. Don’t really know how fast it would go but it was a hell of a lot faster than a bicycle.

Mine was a Red 1976 Caprice Classic Coupe, 4 door tank. The only vehicle I have been extremely comfortable in that I have owned or been in. I also remember in high school when 5-10 bucks in gas would last at least 1 week to 1 1/2 weeks….

My first car was an 83 Caprice Classic. Loved that car. Comfy and quite big. We sure did have fun in the car cruising the back country roads of north east Iowa.

Mine was a 84. Kinda beat the hell out of it but thats what kids do..

’66 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup truck. 6 cyl.,3 on the tree.
Burned more oil than gas until Forey Anderson overhauled it in Jackson,MN. “Ya want me to hop ‘er up?’ he said.
(Dumb question to ask a 16 year old). So he put a split manifold, 3 two barrel carbs, dual Cherry Bomb mufflers,
fat tires, chrome wheels w/ baby-moons, amber lights up in the wheel wells, and a HEAVY CHEVY decal in the back window
    and pin-striping from J.C. Whitney.
Good thing that pickup can’t talk. I’d be in jail.
Or at least not married !

A four door Chevy Citation , a real chic magnet
That one lasted a year, then a 67 Chevy Chevelle SS with a 396.
    Then a sold that( ) for a new 85 Chevy Z28.
I sure wish that I had that Chevelle still.

1971 Chevy C20 3/4 Pickup. It had 36inch tires and a custom flame job that my buddies and I did with spray cans in the garage. It did actually turn out nice. I remember one night at about 10 o’clock when my dad was underneath it replacing the tail light wiring because it somehow got driven through a swamp and it got ripped out.
My friends and I nick named it “the rebel defender”. Good times.

1977 Buick Le Sabre. Big old tank that could really move and I didn’t mind only getting 10 MPG with it. To be young and only have to worry about getting enough money to go out and put a little gas in the car.
    Now those were the days.

I had a 78 coupe 350 rocket engine it did move pretty good I never passed a gas station without stopping

72 Ford Maverick. Couldn’t afford bondo, so I used duct tape to hold in the tail lights and plug the rust holes in the trunk. Going down the gravel roads you’d swear I an exhaust leak all the dust that would come in th vehicle. It was a total piece of junk, but I sure learned A LOT in that car.

Mine was a 57 chevy 2 door and just painted Atec bronze. All the chrome was clean and so was the body for $250 bucks. A guy who I thought was a halfway decent mechanic in auto class overhauled it and left out the rear main bearing on the camshaft and I drove it home from school with no oil pressure. The guy down the street had one hellava chevy 2 that turned 9’s with a 427 in it and rebuilt it for me for another $250 bucks and I could roast the tires with a 283 Afb carb and J.E. 10 to 1 pistons with an ot. 98 cam. Gas when I left highschool was 19 cents a gallon, regualr was 98% octane, ethyl was 99% and airplane fuel was 100%.

Back in 1970 a 62 Plymouth Fury with push button transmission. That car could corner – that’s when cars were cars! That car saw lots of parties.

I knew the first time that I drove that car that it would either kill me or I would kill it.
    Well, I’m still here.

I had a 66 Merc Monterey with a FAST BACK and a 390 in it.
this could turn over 15 snow tires with steel studs in the middle of the summer..

it had 53,000 miles on it when I got it for $150 and 150,000 when I sold it for $75 bucks.. and it owed me nothing.. and a ton of fish and where caught in that car..

and a couple other things were lost in that car as well. but that’s another story..
