Two Vikings suspended for doping violations
    December 2, 2008
New York — (AP) – The NFL has suspended six players for four games each for violating the league’s anti-doping policy, including Minnesota Vikings defensive linemen Kevin Williams and Pat Williams.

The players used a diuretic, which can serve as a masking agent for steroids.

The other four suspended players are running back Deuce McAllister and defensive linemen Charles Grant and Will Smith of New Orleans; and long snapper Bryan Pittman of Houston.

The punishment is an especially harsh blow to Minnesota, which leads the NFC North and relies heavily on the two Williamses to stop the run game.

Well this will certainly shake things up in the NFC North

I’d like to be able to say I’m mad about it.

    But I’m not.

Just puts Childress and Bevell one step closer to the door.

That will hurt a lot!!!, Vikes 1-3 the rest of the way. Look what the Williams wall did on that goal line stand vs. DaBears. Our defense will be on the field for longer periods of time now.

This is why there’s been little to no smack talk from us Queen’s fans. This will go down as the season that might have been………
4 games from Mckinnie, Williams, and Williams
Top LB lost for the season and
    2 games to TJack!

The NFL is quickly going in the wrong direction and if the NFL isn’t tough on these guys, it will end up like the NBA.

    Shut it down!

I’m glad they got suspended simply to keep upholding these guys to a higher standard. I don’t think Pat and Kevin thugs like many other pro athletes, but they should be held accountable for their actions.

Now, all that being said, doesn’t the team have someone who is an expert dietician, drug dealer etc….This offense seems very unexcusable!!! For both the team and players.

Their claim was that the suppliment they were taking did not list it in their ingredients. Their lawyers also said the NFL knew this, and should have told the League “Be aware that this suppliment has a banned substance in it.”

My guess is that the Vike’s drug dealers knew it was not listed and opted to take their chances? Who knows..?

My problem with your “opinion” is that in all the time you have been on this site you have never said one positive thing about the team you claim you are a fan of.

You have an agenda that I’m sick and tired of seeing you try to sell to the world.

The suspensions are not a coaching issue, but you are trying to twist it around to support your opinion that we need to replace the entire front office and coaching staff.

This teaam is in the playoff hunt, and every true Vikings fan is hoping for the best outcome from this. Don’t profess yourself a fan of the team when all you do is search the entire internet looking for every chance you can find to slam that same team you claim to be a fan of.

That is really going to hurt one of the nfls best run defense stopping teams.

According the the NFL they were warned..

The NFL also said it sent two notifications about StarCaps on Dec. 19, 2006 — one to NFL club presidents, general managers and head athletic trainers and the second to NFLPA executive Stacy Robinson, who oversees the steroid policy for the union. That letter, according to the league, advised that StarCaps had been added to the list of prohibited dietary supplement companies.

And the policy is as plain as day. “you are responsible for what goes in your body”. Guilty. All six players are trying to blame someone else, just like any baseball players who get caught for steroids. Nobody actually stands up and takes responsibility. I hope the federal judge laughs at them tomorrow when they try to get an injunction, but I am sure they will get more appeals. I only wish Matt Jones would be serving his suspension for his coke problem. He cost me a spot in the playoffs after Monday night’s performance.

It seems to me that the vikings should have to forfeit any games that they won that the “steroid wall” played in.

It was a diuretic. Is that the same as a steroid?

could be construed as a steroid masking agent.

Can you point me to your source for the above quote? It’s not what ESPN was reporting this morning. Mortonson stated that the league notified players they should not “represent/advertise” for this product, but mentioned nothing of it’s ingredients.

They stated since this “rule” is part of the collective bargaining agreement, there is little chance we’ll see these guys again this year. Unless we make the playoffs of course. I’d rather see them sit now and pay their pennance. I’m such a rube, I want them to win, but don’t want our coach to get another year.

It was an AP story on SI.com. SI Story

Also, if you look at the other link I posted, it is a letter from the NFL to avoid these types of products because they don’t always list all of the ingredients. It says there is a list of banned substances but doesn’t mentioned a banned list of products. It again reminds the players they are responsible for what goes in the body. If the players didn’t get all of these notifications, they should be looking at their agents and the players union, not the NFL.

Weight reduction products predominately contain stimulants for
increasing metabolism and suppressing appetite and/or diuretics or
water pills for water weight loss. There is a list of stimulants and
diuretics banned by the NFL in the Policy for Anabolic Steroids and
Related Substances. However, remember that the contents of
supplements may not match what is listed on the label of the bottle.
If you test positive for a banned stimulant or diuretic or water pill, this
    constitutes a positive test.
I urge you not to take products to that claim to “burn fat”, “lower
    weight” or other similar claims.
Remember that as NFL players you are responsible for whatever is in
    your body.

I’m a huge Packer fan but was quietly admiring the season the Vikes were putting together. great defense, really good running game. they were peaking at the right time which has been unusual for the Vikes. it’s too bad that it had to happen but they have to take responsibility for what goes in ther body.

look at it this way, now the Queens defense will more resemble the Pack’s: A donut….with a big hole in the middle! Go Lions! Now please pass the green kool-aide.

Unfortunately for us Packer fans, this will probably only really affect 1 game of the remaining 4.

Dec 7 @ Lions (Viking running game should be able to control ball and keep the Detroit offense(?) off the field. Detroit is hungry for a win and probably see this game as their last chance).

Dec 14 @ Cardinals (Cardinals have no running game, so not an issue. Would probably have lost anyway due to high powered Cardinal air attack).

Dec 21 Falcons (will definitely hurt them this game).

Dec 28 Giants (Giants will already have clinched playoff spot with home field advantage and play their starters for a quarter and then lay down).

I couldn’t agree with this statement more. It’s unfortunate if they truely didn’t know this was a banned drug. But, the rules are simple and they were caught with a banned substance in their system you gotta sit 4 games. Life sure isn’t fair sometimes.

We still have a chance. We only have to go 2-2. I can’t see us losing to Detroitlet unless we look past them. Arizona is going to be virtually impossible to win down there. Warner could through for 600 yards on our pass D with Allen double teamed all day.

I’m not confident we can beat Atlanta, but at least we always have a shot at home. Out last glimmer of hope may be the Giants having the division/home field locked and they just don’t show up. Although I’m thinking they may be mad about last year yet.

They Bears have to go 3-1 and the Pack 4-0 to tie then. I don’t think that’s realistic either. Although both have pretty soft remaining schedules. Much like the Vikes, just depends which team decides to show up on Sunday. Both have played well and terrible when they shouldn’t have.

I have to think that the Williams boys were not trying to bulk up with roids, aren’t they penalized (by the team)for showing up at camp overweight? I can see them using a fat burner type of pill, and not really paying attention to the consequences.

    Your kidding right?

We just went from 3 wins to 0 or 2 wins with this move.

We lost our best defensive player and another Pro bowler…both defensive tackles.

I don’t know much about Kevin, but what I’ve read about Pat, he’s a stand up family guy we would all be happy to call our friend. So, like I said, I don’t think they were “cheating”, but it does lend an opening to the roid converstation unfortuntately. Why couldn’t they just rent a boat full of dancers.

Their appeal options are used up with the league already, but they could get a court injunction to delay the suspensions.

Worst case scenario, we finish the regular season without them. I believe we could win 2 games the rest of the way, and have a chance to still make the playoffs. If it works out that way, and we get in, those two will be well rested and ready to play the best football of their season. That would have to be a huge boost for the rest of the team.
