Watch out for tires plus ads, they are miss leading. I took the daughters car to the one in Hastings after seeing an ad for a tire sale which included buy 3 get the 4th tire free. When I was talking to the guy at the counter he said that they didn’t honor the ad since they were an independent store, not a franchise store. I asked what he meant about that and he showed me the ad and the Hastings or Cottage Grove store wasn’t in the ad. He said that they didn’t even carry the tires that were in the ad. I than left and went to Fleet Farm and bought 3 get the 4th free.

that sounds fishy to me. How can they be independent and still carry the Tires Plus name? I quit dealing with those guys about 5 years ago. there are much better places to deal with

Elk River is independant too. Had to go to Coon Rapids to get the same deal a couple of weeks ago.

Franchising is an interesting business plan. Not all franchise contracts require you to follow the leader, so to speak. What you experienced is the same at McDonalds, Hardee’s, Arby’s,Cousin’s, Subway, Midas, Culvers, The Music store,Ford, GM, Dodge,… and so many more. As agrevating as it seems, that is why so many ads carry the phrase “At participating…”
Ultimately it is your responsibilty to verify that the business in which you intend to do business with is a participating store.

I just ran into this with McDonalds and the dollar menu. Pulled off on an exit from the interstate (WI Dells) and figured we would get a bunch of double cheese burgers from the dollar menu. She told me the total and I about dumped a load. When i questioned the dollar menu, I was told “We are not a participating resturant”. I said forget it and drove off. I just made it a point to let them know I will never be back because of this.

It is just like the Sears store in Detroit lakes. It is owned privately and you can not return craftsman tools their. I don’t shop in that store anymore.

suppose a person should take the time to read participating store locations??

Sounds to me like you should contact your state’s Attourney General. Our local Gander Mountain used to pull stuff like that. Typical bait and switch misleading ads.

I thought about this later. Tire Plus stores will always do the price match. Did they refuse to match an advertised price and just let you walk? Or did the conversation not get that far?
