250 Mercury pro xs crossthreaded sparkplugs

I have a 2008 mercury opti max pro xs that I was winterizing for the first time. My buddy and I pulled the plugs and was going to replace with new and fog it. So for kicks with me being a machinist I want to see how things are put together and would ya know it. 2 out of 6 cyl sparkplug inlets are just mangled. I noticed when pulling them out those two just didnt feel right. I put the new ones in a thread or two and not wanting to force so I could get a answer back from my dealer and when I do they told me to call Mercury Great after the sale service there. Just wondering if I could just run a tap and try to clean up the threads. Thank for any suggestions
