Spend some time on the internet on sites like C-net and read up on what makes for a good LCD picture and what makes the cheap ones look like cheap ones. There is a huge difference in picture quality between the bottom end and top end units.

I do a ton of signage for Best Buy. I have it on good authority if you want to buy a big screen TV this X-Mas season will be an excellent time to do it. I’m adding one for the bedroom after Black Friday.

I bought a 42″ 720P Panasonic plasma and it has been a great set. 1080P wasn’t that important and the picture is fantastic!

Guy I talked to the other day said pioneer is the best followed by panasonic. Of course it was only one guy’s opinion (a guy that works at Best buy) but from years ago, that trend sounds about right. You’ll never get me to buy another panasonic after the POS tv I bought back in 97…

We just bought a 50 inch Panasonic Plasma (720p) about 6 months ago. We couldn’t be happier. The first thing I would recommend is limit your search to Plasma or LCD. They both have advantages and disadvantages. Once your consider your environment, its should be an easy decision. Both Cnet and Pcmag have good reviews on the different models. I also asked a few of my teckie buddies at work what they recommended.

For Plasma TV’s it seemed like Pioneer was the top recommendation followed by Panasonic. That said, Pioneer cost alot more.

If your already set on an LCD, thats another thing.

I bought a Pioneer plasma 2 years ago. Fantastic picture. I spent 2 months reading reviews, looking at sets, reading specs, etc. Pioneer was rated as the top for plasmas everwhere, and looking at different sets, I had to agree. I have no complaints or regrets about my decision.

I would also recommend going to the stores and just watching the TVs. It’s amazing what a $150.00 will do for picture quality.

Just a thought…Vizio is made by Sony… Just cost about 1/2 the price at Sams Club. Extremely happy with my 47″ that cost under $900 dollars. Researched it a ton. Best Buy was pushing different aspects on the TV. Bottom line for me…price was great, picture was great, and I didn’t even bother with the HD upgrade through the cable company!! JMO.

Beware when comparing Best Buy & Sams. I bought my plasma from Best Buy and a friend bought the same TV at Sams. The difference is the tuner. Mine can pick up some HD channels. His can’t without a special cable box. The difference is the tuner. Nothing wrong with saving a few bucks as long as you are aware that you are not being the exact same TV.

Sams Club is the only place I would consider buying a TV their return policy and warranty is 2nd to none.
Worst Buy or CC would be the last place I’d buy any TV>

Just got a 50″ Panasonic Plasma 1080P, bought it online and paid for white glove delivery and they delivered it downstairs and inspected it, saved over $400 over retail outlet. I would agree the Pioneer Plasma is best but will be built by Panasonic going forward. If you are looking for an LCD, Contrast ratio (higher is better) and refresh 120hz should help reduce the blur you can get from fast moving action (Football or Hockey) just my .02 cents worth.
