I shot this 2 days ago just after the snow storm that hit this area. It was warming and drizzling as I looked over this little stream that flows into the croix… not far from my house… the picture has a tranquil lonely feel to it.. but I like it…. so I thought I would share… this was shot with my new Digital Canon Rebel…..

and… wow.. have you ever played with photo editing programs like photoshop.. or minnesotas own Paint Shop Pro v 8 (Jasc) (what I use)…..??? its amazing what you can do in the adjust catagory, under brightness and contrast… using curves and histograms you can make a pic look quite different.. heres the same shot with a slight adjustment….. (hopefully Im amusing SOMEONE besides me here! ) this version looks a bit sureal.. but kind of interesting too…. anyway.. with this stuff you can change all kinds of things in your photos…. and really make a shot that might otherwise be a looser into a winner.. in my last photo contest I managed to take 11th with a shot that was initially sooo bad I thought I should not even enter it!….

My wife for works for Jasc software, so we get a free copy of the software every time a new version comes out. It’s some pretty cool stuff, and I don’t use 1/10 of what it can do. BTW, great photos, reminds me of one of the best duck hunting spots I’ve ever had back home.

hey thats cool waterfowler… I just wanted to mention the package.. cuz one its a great package… only a fraction of the cost of the industry standard photoshop by adobe… and personally I think its a great value and a great package… I dont feel limited at all and lots of guys in the know have told me the new 8.0 version is better than photoshop 7.0…. I could NOT comment on that… Im not familiar enough with photoshop…. but Ive had great results with Paint Shop and for under a $100 its a bargain compared to $600 for Photoshop…. and a HUGE plus is its a local company… and Im always going to try and keep our local people employed if I can!… also Jasc just yesterday sent me a brand new CD with Paint Shop 8.1 on it… that dont happen too often, where a new release comes out and you get it sent free without even asking…. their phone support is also great, Ive used it a couple of times…..
thanks for the coments on the pix… on of the hardest things in photography is knowing how well your stuff will be liked by others… when YOU take the shot your kind of prejudiced….. Im finally starting to loose some of that and be able to see if I have a winner or not… but still its a very subjective thing and some will like a shot and others will hate it… Im getting a portfolio together so that I can sell my better stuff free lance and the audience I most want to appeal to is local outdoor people.. I want to work landscape and nature shots on “local” popular fishing spots and hunting areas… try to capture the feeling and mood of these things… its not something Ive seen done with much success…
another thing I want to do is be able to really fix up fishing shots and make them awesome, then put custom outdoor related frames around them.. this would give fisherman a great option for keeping a trophy without having to mount it or get a replica…..
