I don’t know much about them D.A.M. reels but I’ve known of the name for quite a few years. I thought I read somewhere that the new ones were better than the old ones but again, it’s old info and I’m not remembering well today!
As far as ball bearings…………it’s the greatest marketing tool in fishing reels today. Gearing is more responsible for the smooth feel that the number of bearings. Just something to keep in mind.

October 31, 2003 at 1:43 am #280238Hi Dan
I do not have any info on the Dam reels..
However I purchased 2 GS3000 guide series reels from Gander Mountain this spring.. used them 2 weeks and went back to the store and bought 4 more..they sold for 49.00
They are the smoothest reels I have ever used..and have held up very well this year..They have a great drag system.
Any way good luck on your next purchase.October 31, 2003 at 1:57 am #280244thanks Reef, Im glad its electronic instead of snail mail, no place for the stamp on that envelope!
October 31, 2003 at 1:59 am #280245There used to be a reel about 25 years ago that went by the name of quick, wonder if theres any connection. They were popular down here in iowa.
October 31, 2003 at 1:16 pm #280292Not sure if there’s a connection or not…………..haven’t gotten into any history with this brand. I do know there’s older stuff out there from watching auctions and there’s often a lot of history explained in a seller’s description…………could be a resource for finding out.
Reef Runner, The Gander reels are made by a company called Tica, who seperated from Daiwa. I have a Libra 3000 and a GS2500…………..dang near identical and I’ve really liked mine so far as well. You like ultralight at all? Check out the Tica Cetus reels at Gander. That 6BB model is a must!!! I think it’s the GV500………can’t remember……….but I got one for $39.95 and it’s UNBELIEVABLY SMOOOOOOOOTH!!! Better yet than the Libra or GS reels! Real easy bail closure too!
October 31, 2003 at 1:24 pm #280294When I was working at Gander, we couldn’t keep the Cetus reels on the shelves. I’m sure in our store alone we would sell a 1000 a winter. I can only recal one coming back with a broken bail. I returned it, but suspected it wasn’t a manufacture defect due to the wear on the reel. At the time, we had two models(don’t recall numbers), a $30 and $40 model. The $40.00 version was hands down a better reel. I had one customer come back and buy 4 more after he landed a 45 inch muskie with it on 6lb. fireline.
October 31, 2003 at 3:22 pm #280315I’m thinking about a couple more myself…………but I don’t need anymore………..and most of the others haven’t rendered any reason to be replaced………….I’m just spoiled!!!
