I was born in 1939. In the middle to late “40’s we kids were into real tournament fishing. Here is how it went and it lasted a few years. My dad introduced me to fishing at a very early age. I was hooked from the start. We had very little money in our family. My beloved aunt had a fish pond behind her house with gold fish in it. We got hooked on tournament fishing right away. The rules were: 1. no hooks 2. release when the fish was out of the water 3. No prizes, just bragging rights! There was a time limit 4. Congratulate the winner with the most catches! Now this was true tournament fishing! I wish that the present generation could get into this, save a lot of money, waste less fuel, keep spouses happy, and just have fun like us recreational fisherman still do! No offense but this is a true happening! By the way the equipment was a stick, a piece of string, and a garden worm tied on the string! It was fun!!!
