Computer question

I’ve seen a lot of help with computer questions on here in the past so I hope someone can help.

My old Dell went out on me a few months back (it will power up but does not sent any signal to the monitor). It was old and out of date so I didn’t mess with trying to get it fixed and bought a new computer.

The problem is I did not have all of my digital pictures and i-tunes files backed up when it went down and I want to get them off of the hard drive.

I think a hard drive to usb cable will do this but have a few questions about this process.

Do I need to buy a case for the hard drive or can I just use the cable to get my files off?

Do I need a second power cable or will the USP cable power the hard drive?

    Anyone have a better suggestion?

    Any help is great.

    Thanks
