old motor help

    I was given a old 10 hp air cooled evinrude. I brought it home and three puuls and it fired. But upon a little looking foud a real big gas leak on the carb. Can anyone help me try to figure this out? The motor is in great shape and will make a great a good motor for the small rivers I fish

    I would say you need to replace all gas lines, make sure the carb is clean, and make sure you run ethanol free gasoline, those old motors just don’t seem to handle ethanol. I would check a place called twin cities outboard for parts. I would also say to find some good new plugs, and mix the gas with some quality oil.

    it sounds like you should order up a carb rebuild kit over time the gaskets disinagrate and while you are at check all of the gas lines. if the are hard and not flexible take them off and go to the hard ware stor and replace all the fuel lines. then you should be set

    Also, check to make sure that the float, needle and seat are not stuck open and allowing gas to over fill the bowl. But I would certainly recomend a carb kit and by all means replace the fuel lines whether it is necessary or not. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!
