I’m posting this on WW and IDO since I stalk these the most.
For the last eight years or more I’ve been taking care of the parents Dad passed away from Alzheimer’s almost two years ago and this last month it came to a point I knew mom needed a more secure environment than I by myself could give her.
The reason I bring this up here is I’ve put the house up for sale with the thought of doing more towards my mapping, although I could keep it and work from this location. Staying here, looking for work doesn’t generate a lot of enthusiasm, having a job resume that only lists taking care of parents for the recent past. Can see minimum wage written all over the wall.
I had the first showing over a week ago and realized my future plans lack. I’ve talked about this to one or two of the guys from WW but I’m curious about suggestions on a wide range of subjects that I need to plan ahead about.
While taking care of the parents, one of the things I always wanted to do when it came time I only had to look out for myself was to go up to Devils Lake and work on adding extreme detail contours to parts of my maps and to be able to work on sales where people could get a hands on look. To do so means likely spending the better part of a summer or two a lake, but I’m not sure I want to make it a permanent move any where. There are other places I want to work on, like Oahe, Cass, or who knows where. It may turn out I’d get into contracting out mapping small lakes here in MN for the locals and jumping from lake to lake. You never know.
One of the things I need to think about is transportation. With the different scenarios of renting a house, getting a trailer or a motor home, looking where I could rent or buy a site for the summer. Here is where I could use suggestions.
???
Keep the small, gas efficient truck I currently have and rent a house, whats the cost advantage.
Buy a trailer or camper and rent a camping lot. Are they available and at what cost. Buy a lot, what cost, are there utilities with them and what location. Is buying a lot a better option in the long run than renting
Big trucks are getting cheaper by the gallon. ??? Buy a big truck just to haul the boat around and use for moves and keep the other truck for day to day things. I’m just not sure how well the little truck would pull the boat up steep inclines at Oahe or some of the other lakes. But that means how do you move a second vehicle.
Just how big a truck would a person want. Also think about how much room would you want to have to live in year round for one person, does that rule out the camper.
There are other things but for now I’d like to see if any one wants to give some in put.
