Canadian Border Crossing – Deemed Rehabilitation

We will be heading to SK in September for the 3rd time, but I’m a little concerned about crossing the border. One of the guys going with us had a DUI back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. I’ve been doing some research and see there are a few things you can do after contacting the Canadian Consulate to try to gain entry.

It sounds like if you have had a DUI in the past 10 years, you’re not getting in, but what about a 20-30 year old conviction? Does anybody have any experience with a DUI that dates back that far? Also, if you don’t make prior arrangements with the Canadian Consulate, what are his chances of being “deemed rehabilitated” at the border? This whole thing confuses me.
