Fished the St Croix on Sunday and saw what I 1st thought might be a paddlefish 48-50 in” long including the snout. Afterwards, I thought this didn’t look like the spoonbills I’ver caught on Miss River. It was 3ft just below the surface in 35 FOW. I don’t have picture, but it was easily a 4ft+ fish and swimming with it was a 15-20in same fish. Did a swoosh right along the boat. The side had markings similar to a northern, with a tail somwwhat like a northern. The bill was maybe 2 1/2- 3″” wide
Was this really a long nose Gar? I’m thinking it was after seeing a picture on the DNR website. How big do these fish get?
