A good friend and neighbor was out in his yard this morning trying to get caught up on some over do landscaping projects. His first words to me “are the fish bitting”. Well, so much for getting caught up on the landscaping projects. My neighbor is not what you would call an avid fisherman but his hart is in the right place. He enlisted my help a few months ago to introduce him to ice fishing and than spring walleye and again today for some of what I call “just fishing”. With the current feeding frenzy that is taking place on the river I new it was going to be fun and no shortage of action. We started at a local hot spot that his holding alot of fish, I passed on a few jig tips and we were catching. Sheep head, white bass, and bass(both large and smallmouth) all on blue/white or a orange/white hair jig. With the wind getting in the way we heading to a bay and started to cast spinners and swim jigs. Only two fish on the yellow spinner but the Yankm swim jig in the baby bass color put several of the “GREEN CARP” in the boat. Decided to head back to the first spot, wind or no wind and try again. Several sheephead caught on the hair jig. Caught several more green carp and brown bass casting the hair jigs on the rocks. With several other bites that we fell short of catching, I decided to down size to a small tube jig and see if the gills were on the bite. Sure enough we ended up catching several nice gills and some bass to end the day.
