It’s as good a band wagon to jump on as any now that the twinks are out. The cubbies or red sox. Root for the underdog.
October 7, 2003 at 3:14 pm #277937I think the Red Sox definitely deserve to have some post season luck after the years of harrassment over “the curse” and what better team to beat than the Yankees.
As for the Marlins, I just think that they have the most talented team left in the playoffs. This time the Marlins got their talent honest instead of buying it for only one year like their first title.Gator Hunter
October 7, 2003 at 3:55 pm #277942Not to rock the boat, or anything… But how many years has Ivan Rodriguez been playing for the Marlins?
I think if you’re looking at who the most talented team is who is left you have to say it’s the Yankees. Just look at their starting pitching. There isn’t a bad one in the whole bunch.
Just my humble opinion however…
SteveOctober 7, 2003 at 4:03 pm #277947I just can’t seemed to root for the Yankees because they beat out my Twins team. Did I mention that my other favorite team is the Braves?

October 7, 2003 at 5:05 pm #277966Ooooo………a border bounder! I can’t cheer for the Yanks or call them the best team because their pockets are much deeper than,…………….I believe……………..any other organization out there. Like the Dallas Cowpunks………..”America’s Team”………..big bucks bought the talent and you had multiple “heros” but the minute there was a mistake, they were all over each other. They stunk as a “team”. The Yanks are the same in my book. They offer more money than anyone else can and buy up all the talent. Because they can doesn’t make it right or wrong, I just root more for the hearts that “play the game to play the game” than the hearts that fall for the alure of Yankee fame and fortune.
1987 Twins…………..powerhouse team of tremendous talent. How many returned in ’88? Other clubs with bigger $$$ bought up a bunch of ’em. Sure, we fought back and won again by ’91…………….but that wasn’t supposed to happen if you remember how “Cinderella” much of that season was.
Red Sox deserve a Series title……………….Cubs have paid their dues. Either one is fine by me……………..but those Yankees have GOT TO GO!!!!!
October 7, 2003 at 5:08 pm #277968Kid,
Can’t disagree with anything you said, both teams are due.
Good Luck to all!October 7, 2003 at 5:34 pm #277975I am a long-suffering cubs fan (every cubs fan is long-suffering) so I’m extremely excited at this point. I was rooting for the twins, and when they lost to the hated yankees I was pulling for the red sox. But after watching Manny Ramirez hit that home run last night and stand there watching it with that cocky look on his face, I have a hard time pulling for any team that includes a jerk like that on its roster. Guess I can’t hold it against the rest of that team that they have one guy who who is the poster child for everything that baseball should NOT be about. So for me, it has to be Cubs beating the Red Sox in the World Series. Hopefully the Cubs pitching will get it done!
Go away Manny.
Go away Yankees.
Go Cubs!
October 7, 2003 at 5:52 pm #277977Cubs vs Red Sox
That would be a great series to watch! What an awesome storyline no matter who wins. Not that the Marlins aren’t a great story, but it would be much sweeter for the Cubs. And the Yankees…… Don’t even get me started. The last thing I want to see is ” The Yankees buy yet ANOTHER championship.Chad
October 8, 2003 at 2:03 am #278018cubs and sox… yankees and marlins gotta go…. they both been there done that… good for them!.. but comon.. share the wealth!!! the sox and cubs have paid dues like no other franchises probably in the world….. wait till next year has been a slogan and battle cry for them and thats just not right… and.. oh yeah… Im a CUBS fan!… go Cubs GO!… bye bye Yanks and marlins…. hello boston…!
October 8, 2003 at 1:42 pm #278044Last nights game was pure torture!
How can the Cubbies play with a guy’s emotions like that?
Gotta even it up tonight!
October 8, 2003 at 2:31 pm #278048Is that the same Mark Guthrie who used to pitch for the Twins? I can’t imagine that he’s still pitching. What a horrific way to lose that game. I’m sure it will be a different story when Wood and Prior start.
SteveOctober 8, 2003 at 3:07 pm #278052Same Mark Guthrie. He pitched for the Dodgers for a number of years before McPhail got him for the Cubs.
DONOTDELETEPosts: 780October 8, 2003 at 4:01 pm #278061I grew up in Chi town and have waited for this my whole life. Just about cried when they won divisional. Hope like heck they get to the big show and take on the Yanks. Would be nice to have that series shoved down the Yanks throat by the Cubs! SWEET!!!
October 8, 2003 at 4:07 pm #278063All I have to say is….GO CUBS!!!! Last night was a huge heartbreaker, but keep in mind we still have 6 more games against them fish. Prior is on the mound tonight, and Wood is starting game 3…so thats two games right there that the cubbies should win, and hopefully that will give them the momentum to keep on rollin.
PRIOR AND SAMMY ARE GOING FISHING TONIGHT!!!! DON’T MISS IT!!October 8, 2003 at 4:35 pm #278067Hey Jake, I suppose you would know about cork. That’s the stuff between your ears. How do i know you might ask? Well…..isn’t that a cork tree your eating?
GO CUBBIES!!!!!!!!
October 8, 2003 at 5:16 pm #278077note to self: self, never post a photo of yourself eating a cork tree on a public fishing forum ever again .
hey blue fleck, wasn’t this you when the cubbies lost last night???
October 8, 2003 at 5:33 pm #278078Jake, that looks like a futuristic self portrait of you. Entitled: ‘Look, there really isn’t anything up there!’
tag you’re it….
October 9, 2003 at 1:54 am #278127Hey Fleck, from a guy born on the North side of Chicago……GO CUBS!!!!!
October 9, 2003 at 5:35 am #278151should be a good one…. both teams are quite similar….. and neither of them give up… so though the fish got flattened tonight.. Im sure tommorrow they will be looking for blood….. of course as a cub fan I would like to see more of what happened tonight….. but the cubs dont have an unlimited supply of pitchers like prior and wood…..
October 9, 2003 at 10:41 am #278155I was watching the Wild/Blackhawks game and saw the score scroll by when it was 12-2. I thought ESPN had their wires crossed and was rebroadcasting football scores or something.
Go cubbies
October 9, 2003 at 1:58 pm #278181What happens if the Cubs (last won a World Series in 1908) play the Red Sox (last won a World Series in 1918)?
Would they just call the series?
October 9, 2003 at 2:16 pm #278183I think they should leave it up to who has the most powerful curse. The Cub’s goat or Sox bambino. Or maybe a couple rounds of rock ’em sock ’em robots.
