So, anyone want to guess how many games we will win this year?? I expect to see a lot of blow outs. The games we are close in, we will lose because of stupid mistakes like last night. I’m guessing 18 back by the all star break. Gonna be a long summer not having anything good to watch on TV.

Pohlad needs to spend some money and get Barry Bonds in for a year. Lineup would be lots stronger, better pitches to hit for each player on either side of him in the lineup and it looks like we are gonna need all the runs and baserunners we can get. Gomez and Young look good though for how early it is.

You must be a Sox fan.
We need Barry like we need a .357 hole between our eyes.

I couldn’t have said it better.
Vegas Over under was 72 wins….. I think I may take the under.
April 3, 2008 at 8:36 pm #670959Come on guys, it’s early in the year, have some faith! We just need to make the playoffs, that’s it. Who knows what injuries can do to other AL Central Teams….
April 3, 2008 at 8:39 pm #670964You guys are talking like this, while the royals lead the division . I don’t think will be contenders, but we might almost make .500. Never know what will happen down the stretch.
April 3, 2008 at 8:42 pm #670969Unfortunately, I am thinking it will be a very loooonnnggg year for the Twins. I hope I’m wrong, but…if not, will the last free agent to leave please turn out the lights in the Metrodome. What makes me wonder is what does carl think is gonna put people in the stands come 2010?
As far as watching the Twins, until my wife can move and join me, (house has to sell) then we can move our directv and I should get to see them again, for now I can’t get them.

April 3, 2008 at 9:48 pm #670991I’ll take the over (72) but not by much. I predict 75-77 wins. Cuddyer batting third REALLY bothers me. I like Cuddyer but just not in that spot in the order. He’s a good 5-6 guy. I’d flip him with Young.
Morneua can flip the switch on anytime now. He’s oooofer and we’ve lost two 1 run games. The pitching staff is going to be like this all year though. One good game, one bad, one good game……
I still think they’re going the right direction for opening the stadium in 2010.

April 4, 2008 at 1:32 am #671055I agree that its gonna be a LOOOONNNGGG season… We put a youngster out there who has an amazing game(Blackburn) and we cant even salvage a run. We get 4 leadoff guys on and ground into 3 double plays. And Gomez has 5 bunt attemps and fails to get a single one down. I didnt catch todays game but Wednesday nights game said a lot about the season to come. I know you cant judge a team by one game, but a team will never get anywhere if they are going to be on the losing end of 1 run games. I say 75-87
April 4, 2008 at 10:09 am #671164I was at the game Tues. night and was not impressed. I think it’s going to be a tough year. I agree with you guys – 76 wins.
Not a surprise I guess. New third baseman (Lamb), second baseman (Harris), shortstop (Everett), left fielder (Young), center fielder (Gomez), DH (Monroe), and so far two starting pithers (Hernandez and Blackburn).
April 4, 2008 at 1:30 pm #671196I will say 78, I think they will be just below 500, lots of games left for these young guys to get in sync and show some people. Gardi has always done a great job in turning his roster into a competitive line up.

I’ll disagree with you on Cuddy. He needs to see fastballs. When Gomez is on base and Justin is hot you will see Cuddyer going well also. ALL major leaguers can hit a fastball, the trick is getting into a situation where the pitcher has to throw one. As a pitcher you don’t want to face Morneua with runners on vs. throwing a fastball to Cuddyer.
IMHO the Twins will contend until the all star game and then fade fast. By years end we will have a new second baseman and have seen a ton of different pitchers.
thonedPosts: 63April 4, 2008 at 3:23 pm #671256When Gomez is on base and when Justin is hot? Then Cuddyer will go good. Haha. We are in for a long season .
This team returned 3 position players, batting 2-4. This team cannot afford to only hit on all cylinders. It needs a guy in the 3 spot that hits consistently (Puckett, Molitor, Mauer have been recent examples). Having a guy in there (again who I like overall) who hits .280 and has had ONE good year of power really rattles me. I know Gardy’s theory is to split up the M-M boys but each hits lefties well, so why not have them 3-4?
Having a three hitter that hits .280 with 15-20 homers will scare no one. Case in point was yesterday’s game, in the ninth with two out, 1 on 2nd, Mauer was walked to get to Cuddyer (who didn’t see a single fastball)April 4, 2008 at 3:43 pm #671269“Having a three hitter that hits .280 with 15-20 homers will scare no one. Mauer hit 13 Homeruns year before last when he played 150 games. He is not a power threat. If you want the “M&M” boys back to back then put Mauer behind Morneau and move Young up to the two slot.(bad idea IMHO)Fact is the Twins do not have a two hitter besides Mauer.
Thanks for making my point on Cuddyer and fastballs. Morneau is 0-12, no need to throw a fastball to Cuddyer.
I’m off to the sports show now, I’ll let you guys figure this one out.
April 4, 2008 at 4:20 pm #671276I get your point on Cuddyer and fastballs. Its just that we can’t have a 3 hitter who can only hit fastballs. I’m not against putting Morneau in the 3 spot either. Mauer is not a power threat but when healthy won a batting title.
Good stuff!
