So after taking the boat out of storage for the year i finally took it out. When i dropped the trolling motor in the water i had nothing. The prop didnt even attempt to spin. I thought possibly the batteries were dead even though i had it plugged in over the winter, so i plugged it in for a couple hours. I turned the motor on and i could hear a faint squeeling coming from the prop area. It is a high pitched squeel that isnt real loud but noticable. The trolling motor is only 2 years, anyone have any ideas they can shoot out?

sounds to me like either your shear pin is broken and causing the shaft to just spin inside the prop, or you have an internal gear problem. I had this happen to one of my trolling motors and it was not good. The prop would spin, but the resistance of the water was too much and it wouldn’t move the boat. Hopefully you don’t have that big of a problem.

pull the prop off and see if it still squeels if so you may had moisture set up in your front bearing over the winter ..should be a resonable fix either way,if you were here in my area I could check it out for you.

sounds like water in the front bearing. Get it checked before further use. It will hopefully keep the repair simply and more cost effective.
