What is everyone using to anchor on the mississippi? The type of anchor, weight of anchor, chain or no chain, length of rope? I would be trying to hold an 18ft lund.Any suggestions from our experienced idoers would be appreciated .

The two most popular ones that I have saw would be the rictor or the water spike. In my opinion either one works fine. I would get a chain also. I would get at least 50 ft of rope but 100 ft would be the safest bet, if you plan on using the water spike.

I held a 32′ pontoon with a built in enclosure in the rear in 25 mph sustained winds in 33′ of water with 6 occupants with ONE waterspike type anchor on the St Croix. The pontoon didnt budge.

Rictor anchors are good too, but I use my spike unless the current is too fast to get the anchor to drop near where you want it(they flutter in heavy current on the drop).

Water spike with a chain. Seems to me you need the weight of the chain to get the spike to release from the bottom properly. If there is no weight on the end of the rope it is difficult to get it to slide to the front of the anchor where it allows you to pull the spike out backwards from the bottom. The current will keep the rope pushed towards the downriver part of the anchor.
