Derek HansonPosts: 592February 27, 2008 at 10:29 pm #659753It will be nice to have a Reeds up there but it is sure going to put a big hurt on the competition

Please explain. I can see Garrison Sports being hurt…which other ones?
February 27, 2008 at 10:33 pm #659756Is Gander going to buy that one out too!! The baxter location didn’t last too long.
February 27, 2008 at 10:36 pm #659757They were going to, but some of the details didn’t work out, so they bought that piece of land.
February 27, 2008 at 10:40 pm #659761You mean the new Gander Mountain. Gander bought out all of Reed’s Sporting Goods.

[/quote169 and 27 is south end of the lake.
it will surely put lundeen ( a staple of mille lacs for decades) in a bad spot.
Mellens the BP gas station will also feel it.
I think it will even hurt Johnsons and Tutts too. if people make that the stop due to lower prices and a better selection with a better return policy then its a no brainer.
February 27, 2008 at 10:49 pm #659767Gander bought the Baxter store, the one in Walker is still owned by the Reed family. Unless something else has happened. I know the orginal deal was only for the Baxter location.

They did not buy the Baxter Reeds. They bought out the inventory, and as part of the purchase agreement Reeds had to abide by several coniditions. Size, location of new store, and a time period to name a few were a part of the agreement.

Prince bait as well. Any tackle shop on the lake or south of the lake on 169 will feel this.

February 27, 2008 at 11:29 pm #659784That’s already one busy intesection, I hope they can slow the traffic down a bit, don’t know how many times I watched a trailer almost get run over.
February 27, 2008 at 11:34 pm #659787I hate agreeing with Packer backers, but you are very right Chomps. When I’m headed to the east side, I bypass that whole intersection by taking a county road around the south side of the lake. It’s just too crazy up there. Trying to go south off 47 is a nightmare.
February 28, 2008 at 12:49 am #659807When and why did the Baxter location close. It seems as though it should have done well. I know I hit it a couple times each week when I am up that way?
FDR
I was thinking Baxter but typed Walker! My mistake.

The Walker Store is alive and well; sounds like it will be getting bigger!

Reeds will not hurt your little bait shops much at all. Reeds will probaly hurt prince guns more than anyone. Nobody can beat Reeds on guns prices and selection. Reeds will beat any gun dealer by 20-100 dollars. This is why Gander bought him out in Baxter. Gander Mountain has a price match policy and they were losing too much money. Last summer I purchased a 2 man ladder stand from Reeds they beat Gander by 100 dollars and the sales person put it on a 2 wheel dolly and brought it out to my truck.Good old fashioned CUSTOMER SERVICE you cant beat it.

I heard that they weren’t doing guns in the Mille Lacs location. Sounds like they would be able to after an expansion in a couple of years. Store has to stay under a certain size for a period of time, than can be expanded.

I’d heard the same.
March 31, 2008 at 3:48 pm #669648The building is standing. There aren’t any windows yet, but things are going together very fast.
