Best time to sell a boat?

I think I’m going to clean out the garage pretty soon and got to wondering if now or later is a better time to advertise a boat to get the best $$ for it. With tax refunds coming and the other economy boosting check before long it seems it would be a good time to get it advertised. Or is closer to spring and open water better? Thanks.

I’d say April or May..if a guy is in a desperate market for a boat, in my case last year it was a motor, and open water/fishing opener is coming up very soon, a guy would probably be willing to throw down solid cash for a rig to get him out on the water. The worst time for sure would be in the mid fall-mid winter period. Sell it in the spring when there is a high demand for boats.

It really is all about what you want and percieve. The best time to sell a boat is when you can get what you want for it, just like the best time to buy a boat, is when you can get one for what your willing to spend Advertise ASAP, you don’t have to move on price, if you don’t want to.

First week in April. Ice going out, Boats out of storage and being hauled around provide visual incentives to start shopping. Worked for me. Also gives buyer some early time to get his boat ready for sale and on the market prior to the big rush in late April

I would say right now. THe prices before Christmas were one thing, now on Ebay, the prices are going through the roof.

    so now is the time.

Yup, I would start advertising it right now. I just sold my boat a week before Christmas, and I sold one previously in February, and I’ve sold another one in May. Point being, you never know when you’re buyer is going to be there. But I would say now is prime time….people are getting itchy for open water, and they’re looking.

I sold my last boat in November. I think there are always buyers in the market for a QUALITY used boat, regardless of what the calendar says, especially with new boat prices being what they are.

Well I look at it this way. most guys are getting excited about fishing in the spring. Guys are wanting to get out and use their boat. If I was going to buy a boat I would want to buy it in the spring so I could go out and use it right away and try it out. I would not be a fall or winter boat buyer because then I have to sit it all winter and it gets a year older plus I dont get to use it for a while. I would only buy a boat in the fall when they seem to be cheaper,.If I ran over a steal then I would buy it.

Boats are selling well in our area. So, I would get some quality photos and get an ad together. The boat shows have been on and people are really looking for good boat packages. If you don’t get a response from your ad, pull it and try later in March.
