I find it ironic indeed that the San Francisco is going to allow Code Pink to park a car directly in front of the USMC recruiting office, to protest the 3,961 or so US Military deaths since the beginning of the Iraq war on March 19, 2003. This conflict is approaching 5 years in duration, during the most recent 5 year period that I could find statistics (2002-2006), the automobile is the instrument of death in 214, 877 fatalities for an annual average of 42, 975 deaths per year. The annual AVERAGE of the motor vehicle fatalities is more than 10 times the TOTAL military casualties.
In light of these statistics, I think the SF powers that be , if they feel such a burning desire to make a statement, could place something more representative of their group in that designated parking space, such as a large statue of Benedict Arnold in a cute little pink outfit, rather than such a gruesome machine as an automobile!
