fogging question

I have a new merc 50 4 stroke and was looking at fogging it but one of the cylinders I can not hardly get to the spark plug. I have heard from some others that it isn’t necssary to fog it. I have heard to only change the lower unit oil and engine oil put in sea foam and thats it. Some say that the fogging oil hurts the engine. Wondering what to do. Thanks

Spray it into the air intake while running till it kills the motor.

I would not do that on a 4 stroke. Bad idea!

Winter storage proceedure will be in your owners manual. Follow that and you won’t have any warranty problems. Or any other problems. If you don’t have the manual, any merc dealer can get one for you.

But yes, treat the gas and change the oil/filer and lower unit. Good to go.

I absolutely believe you! I still would not do it on a new 4 stroke.

I am along with Jon on this one. Me personnely I have never fogged an engine, but I allso run full synthetic oil. Add Seafoam I check the lower unit for moisture if clear then I usually change every other year using synthetic oil. I do this with all engines around the farm that don`t get run much in the winter. Never have had an issue.

    Just my two cents

If the motors are just carberated no problem spray away till it dies is the correct way. If it is a EFI or DFI engine pull the plugs and spray in the cylinders and turn over with tether switch pulled for a few seconds. Make sure you change the oil in the motor and the lower unit and diffinitly run a fuel stabilizer in gas. Know is a good time to check over everything too. Like maybe changing a water impellor or maybe changing a fuel filter. Just easier to get it ready now for next spring.

Jon in the manual it does say to fog through the spark plug holes and one of them I can’t hardly get too. I don’t think I will fog it but just out of curousity why wouldn’t you on a 4 stroke?
