MN DNR Licensing System

A few weeks ago I went out of town for a tournament, and left my license at home. No big deal, I thought. Stop at the local Gander Mountain and pick up a duplicate.

I go up to the Customer Service counter and hand the guy my driver’s license. After a few minutes he comes back and tells me I don’t have a license. I asked nicely to go back to the computer, and tell it I have a license, and print out a duplicate. A few more attempts and he comes up empty handed. Not wanting to take a chance on fishing without a license on me, I tossed down $18 on a “new” license.

Come Monday, I email the DNR. They were actually quick with a response to tell me I’m SOL. They tell me that my original license was issued as a license to someone either 16 or 17, without a driver’s license. Then they tell me I have 24 hours from purchase to get refunded from the store I purchased it at. Thanks, I tell them I bought it 3 days ago and this is the best answer they give???

So, I go home, line up the two licenses, that show my birthdates on BOTH licenses, along with my MN Driver’s License, take a picture, and emailed it back. Asked them if they could send a check to the address on the licenses. No answer.

I guess next year I’ll be driving a lot to fish in SD and WI.

Man, that ain’t good at all. Here in NE I’m pretty sure we have to get to a main NGPC office to get a duplicate, but still, they’re usually pretty good about it. Why it jumped from $1 to $5 is beyond me. Didn’t think paper went up THAT much.

As for driving…..I realy fear what gas prices will be next summer. $36 will be a cheap price to pay compared to filling a tank or two.

I was just being sarcastic about driving; although I do fish in all 3 states every year. Just dissapointed in the fact that A: The state “loses a license”, B: “finds it again”, but tells me it’s for a 16 or 17 year old ( Don’t they all have birthdates on them), and C: After knowing I bought the license 72 hours prior to the email, tells me I have 24 hours from time of purchase to be reimbursed. D: Now has been shown proof of me paying full price two times for a license and won’t refund me one of them.

Ya, I hear ya. It’s frustrating. But still not as frustrating as gas prices!

Bottom line… You’re right and they’re wrong. I be persistant and give them a call back with all the proof you have. Be polite but persistant. There can’t be all jack working there.
