From Anoka I take 169 N to Garrison and turn West on 18. A few mile down the road take a right on HWY 6 and follow that to Deer River/HWY 2. Head East on HWY 2 and take a right North onto HWY 46. 46 to Northhome and a left on HWY 71. Take that for a couple miles and take a right on HWY 72. 72 makes a right a few miles down the road and then its clear sailing on 72 all the way to Baudette. 169 all way to Grand Rapids is an option too. Just get on East HWY 2 and the directions are the same. Good Luck!

I live in the NW corner (Champlin) and I usually plan on 5 hours and 15 minutes pulling either the boat or 4-wheeler and making 1 stop in GR.

My route is similar to Fife’s, but I follow 169 all the way to 2 in GR.

I take BigFife’s way and it takes me exactly 5 hours to get to Sportsmens Lodge. Oh, I have a lead foot!

My first trip was 4.5 hours of drive time to Rocky Pt. on Lake of the Woods. The speedo might have been reading 80 a few times on that trip. I think it usually takes 5-5.5 hours with 1 or 2 quick stops mixed in. We go back and forth on the HWY 6/169 thing on every trip to LOW or Winni, but I like the HWY 6 route more.

My favorite way is similair to Fife’s, but I take Hwy 10 to Motley and then 64 to Akely. Take a right in Akely and take a short 9 mile to Walker and take 371 to Cass Lake. Take a right (east) in Cass Lake on 2 over cty 10/39 north to Blackduck and then 72 north to Baudette.
From Champlin, it seems about the quickest way that I have found.

    Good luck!
