    So I get a call from my Daughter this afternoon around 4pm very excited, “Dad a truck just crashed in our ditch in front of the house!!!” I told her that I was on my way home and I would see her in a little bit. I then called the sheriffs Dept and gave them my address and started to tell them what happened when the dispatcher asked me if my daughters name was Emily I said why yes it is. The dispatcher said that Emily had already called it in. Emily is 12 years old, way to go kido!!! By the Time I got there the Sheriff was already there along with the kid who crashed into the ditch and my tree. The Kids dad was there also, the kid had called him, his dad said they would be back tomorrow to repair everything, I have got all there info so we will see. Our house is on a county road that is at the end of a sharp curve, we are just the second house off the curve and on the start of a long straight away. We have a lot of young guys come flying down our road off this curve all the time. This kid was 17, driving too fast in the rain and lost it, he was lucky he was wearing his seat belt. Now Emily knows why I do not want her and the neighbor kids playing in the ditch, she told me tonight that she never will again.

    I hope he gets your yard back to looking good. He sure tore it up.

    Glad no one was hurt.

    It’s too bad the kid smacked up his truck, but it’ll teach him to slow his down from now on. Anyone else notice how crappy some of the younger kids drive these days??

    Yup, took one of those to teach me to get my foot off the gas back in ’65. Left the road at about 80 or so, thru a fence and into a grove. The only thing I remember is that everything was in slow motion. Woke up in the back seat with glass all over me, a bloody nose, and cuts and bruises everywhere. The passenger side of my car was almost caved to the drivers side. No seat belt. They were only for decoration back in those days. Still don’t know how I survived. A slight concusion, a whole lot of stitches and damn little memory of what really happened.

    As gramps has pointed out, young kids have been driving poorly since there were kids and cars. These days, the cell phone thing seems to be adding a lot more danger to youth and their “driving skills”.

    Steve;

    The kid’s auto insurance should cover the restoration of your lawn/trees.

    I noticed the damage this morning Steve and was just going to call you about it. Glad Emily did the right thing and called the cops.

    Sure I did, and I also payed the concequences(sp?) and did what I had to do to correct the situation. Steve is entitled to be upset and make a point of this.

    Nearly the same thing happened to me as a teen, I was a more aggressive driver… but driving on a road I didnt know a bit too fast at night. Road lines were non existant, and there was no sign to mark the curve(90 degree). I ended up in someones lawn after taking out a couple mailboxes. The thought crossed my mind to run(young and scared), but I did the right thing and went to the house and fixed the property the following day.

    I made the mistake.. if the home owner decided to call me an idiot, they had every right.

    I am not really upset, I am glad that he or no one else got hurt. I had something very similar happen to me when I was his age, we all did some dumb things when we were kids. I posted this in the hopes that maybe just maybe it will get someone else his age to stop and think about how they drive and if they can lean from his mistake and maybe prevent an accident then some good can come out of this. The lawn can be fixed and the tree can be replaced if it does not make it, as long as no one got hurt I say thanks to the man upstairs

    That was a mighty shiny truck for a kid to be craking up like that. I think between that and the Day of working to repair the yard while dad supervises should be a good lesson for now. Now if he does it again…
