need help with garage heater

I did the plumbing and all the wiring and everything is fine (no leaks), but there seems to be a drop in pressure and the guy from the gas company who was working on the outside meter replacing stuff, said I need to bleed the line to get the pressure back up and that is why it is not igniting. Just curious if this is normal or not. And PM your phone number and I can call to give you all teh details.

    thanks-

May be right. Bleed the gas line at the heater to get the air out of the line. Just crack open one of the gas connections until you start to smell gas then tighten it up again. Let the room air out a little before lighting the heater.

Also make sure there is no back pitch on the gas line or the gas may not flow to the heater.

thanks. what do you mean by back pitch? as far as I can tell everything is level.

natural gas. at least that is what the box said. as it said i can buy a propane change-over if I wanted to do LP.

hooked my up last fall. didn’t do anything with the pitch. just a drip leg neer the furnace. used 3/4″ black pipe. i found a leak in mine where i cracked a coupling from overtightning. friend had a pressure gauge with an air fitting. pumped it up off the air compressor and found it wouln’t hold.
nature gas runs at around 7 psi from what i’m told. i did what previous post said. turned gas on with my thumb on the end so i could tell it was pushing threw untill i could smell it, hooked it up, aired out the garage and after about a minute of listening to the electric igniter spark she fired up.

I was gonna make a few suggestions, but then thought twice as I do not want to be held responsible if someone blows themself up.

    Sorry,. and good luck.

Sorry guys. This was a poor attempt at afternoon plumbing humor.

    hey bronco,

stop stepping on the cig in the middle of the floor, then you will not have any heater problems. sorry, couldn’t resist hope you get it figured out.

is it electronic ignition or does it have a standing pilot? if it has a standing pilot (small flame next to the burners that will be on all the time) check that and make sure it is on. if it has electronic ignition check if it is sparking when it tries to light. if it has a pilot flame or if its sparking then you know its a gas issue.

I’d like to hear the details on how it went/cost?

Send me a pm, I still have to have someone do the pluming to my unattached garage.

it is electric ignition. I can see the spark, but just not lighting. can smell the gas and all that. just not firing up.

the expense was the furnace of course, and the exhaust pipe. running the 3/4 black pipe was the cheapest part of it.
