So it isnt all about titles? There are other important things? Hmmmm…..someone has learned how to talk out of both sides of his mouth, quite a talent.

Dillion was only there for one Superbowl. Deion Branch is nothing special. Superbowl MVP isnt exactly an indication of a great player.

Yes that is 12 titles I count for Favre….how many does your boy Dilfer have other than the titles he won the year he won the Super Bowl. His team thought so much of him that they released him that off season. I can see were all this going. I’m not taking the bait any further….

I think what he’s getting at is Dilfer is an Avarage QB that has as many SB rings as Farve, Arguably the best…..

Just because I beat out Al Lindner in the only musky fishing contest I ever entered does that mean I am a better fisherman? Geez , I guess I should think of a better analogy!

Doug, the answer to your question is “yes”. You probably are a better fisherman but not as big of a TV star as Lindner.

He’s fallen short of what? The Vikings Super Bowl rings? I tell you what you can’t see the obvious so I guess all a person could do is go and ask the current coaches if they’d accept the talent Favre has. I’d bet every single one of them would be glad to have his talent. The ones that don’t are lying. Someday maybe your favorite team will have a string of fifteen WINNING seasons. If that time ever happens you will fully understand it isn’t about the big game every year. Fact is there is only one Super winner every year. There have been many great QBs that have never won the big one. Favre made it twice winning one and gifting one. So what, he is still a class act.

I’ll again refer to Favre’s stats. Please point out what it is about his stats that show Brett is anything less than spectacular. I’ll not hold my breath waiting for a legitimate reply.

SteveO, thanks for the , but I beg to Dilfer with you, Al is good, very good, but not great, now Putz and Chappy on the other hand are truly great and yes, I am prepared to go that Farve!

Not competitive regarding the TV star status, I can’t even pass a wasserman test, let alone a screen test!

Wow, A Bear’s fan sticking up for Favre? Has it really frozen over??!!

Riveratt obviously knows football and just isn’t trying to start things up like Mr DaveB.

Most interesting fact that I have picked up on is that the Bear’s have had 21 different starting quarterbacks since Favre took over the Packers. You can quibble about stats and numbers but that is truly an amazing run whether you like Favre or not.

All you Favre haters will love this. Sal Palantonio has a new book about the most overrated and underrated football players of all time. The #2 QB is Favre, right behind Namath. BUT he did admit that they only looked at the last five years and that his stats were comparable to Vick’s. He did say the way things are going this year he would be removed from the list in the next addition of the book. Bart Starr was the most underrated QB of all time.

Oh, Chris Carter and Randy Moss were both top 5 most overrated WR of all time. They didn’t discuss Carter but they did the same thing with Moss as they did with Favre; they ignored the early years and only looked at the last 4 seasons. He too will be off the list in the next addition.

And since McMahon was brought up, the 85 Bears was on the list as the most overrated SB winner of all time. Basically the Bears were popular mostly because of the “unique” set of guys on the team, but they beat nobody.

Interception’s. Not saying when he’s on, he’s is not great. But in my opinion, anything or person, that warrants the word “great” from me, is not sometimes, but closer to always great. That’s just me.

Never heard of this clown. I’d say we could pick out a short segment from anyones career to show how good, or poor, they performed. Like the stock market you look at the big picture and in the case of Favre it is very clear. He is a winner and class act. When you hold the record for the most pass attempts your bound to also hold or be close to the interception record as well. Very common in baseball with players that have the most hits, they also have more strikeouts than most others.

The 85 Bears may or may not have been over rated. Certainly no more than any other team that year. As I recall the Bears rose to the top and beat the top team, the Patriots, of the AFC. Good bad or ugly they won the crown. For as “bad” as some claim they were it appears in the history books as though they knew how to win when it counted. How many games did they lose in 85?

In my book, a great quarterback, would not be the norm, as far as INT/TD ratio, and attempts. He would have great numbers of TD’s and a marginally lower % of INT’s number. Otherwise, I would call him good, not great or spectacular. He could have great moments, in his career, but not labeled greatest all time. IMHO.

You must not follow the NFL too close if you don’t know who this clown is. He is a respected NFL reporter. He wrote the book with Reuben Frank, a reporter for Sport Illustrated. I’m certainly not saying they are experts (nobody here is either), but they actually went through all the stats from the history of the NFL to come up with the ratings and have an interesting take on things.

They never said the Bears were bad, just overrated. Can you name one person on the LA Rams besides Eric Dickerson? The starting QB only played one year in the league. The Patriot team is considered the worst team to ever get to the super bowl. So they may have been the greatest team ever, they just didn’t have any competition to prove it. They compared it to the 76 Raiders who had to get through the steel curtain in the AFC championship game and Fran and the purple people eaters in the SB.

the Bear’s lost one game that year to the Dolphins. the defense on that ’85 Bears team was one of the best in the history of the NFL. the Ravens D the year they won the SB was close

    Anything to sell a book….

I could have been the QB on Barts Stars Team and we would have won the same amount of games.

No-body hates Brett Farve it’s just a small minority of Pack Fans that rub Vikes fans the wrong way and visa versa.

I follow the NFL rather close. Of course I concentrate on the black and blue division but some idiotic sentences from some bozo doesn’t change the fact that Favre is one of the best, if not the best, QBs of all time. I’m sorry, it just doesn’t.

An interesting link to honor Favre. Favre Honored

As much as the Bears may have been over rated in 85 two things are undebatable. They had what is widely considered the best defense to ever grace the NFL and, two, they were better than anyone else that year.

Congress must have decided not to honor of Favre.

    The link didn’t work.

I was pretty young in 85. I really only remember that lard Perry scoring on the Packers. I always hear the defense is so great and they were a great team, but I don’t remember them making the SB in 86 or anytime soon after that? Did they disband the team after 85? And yes, they were better than everybody else. SB champs usually are. That has no bearing on someone being overrated or underrated.
