    Where are you located?
It is a very easy process. If you are in the Twin Cities I can help IF not I am sure that you can find someone on IDA to help.

    I can help than
So order what you want and then PM with the model number. I can download your update, meet you somewhere and upload it to your lowrance.

Card readers are about $30 and product updates are free on lowrances website. The locator might come with a card reader.

Also, I’ve taken mine to Thorne Bros. who have done it for me at no cost.

Sometime when you’re coming to the metro area, bring it along and stop in @ Capras on (I believe) 65 north of Hiway 10. They did both of mine for nothing- – – – – – -jerr

Updating your lowrance is really easy. Here is the card reader that I have, bought it at walmart or target.

    card reader

You’ll also need a sim card, like this one.

    sim card

Go out to lowrances site, download the correct update for your product to your computer. Updates are located here:

    lowrance download

Once the file is downloaded to your computer, put the sim card into the card reader and attach the card reader to your machine. Copy the file from the computer to the sim card.

Take the card out of the reader, install it in the lowrance unit and turn the unit on. The lowrance unit will update on its own.

Another good reason to have this setup is to save your waypoints from the unit, in case you have to do a hard reset on your unit or if you buy the map create software.

Reeds in Brainerd did the same for me this past summer. Total charge? 0$!

How often does this need to be done? I bought a new unit in August, 522c. I imagine it was in its box for a while since leaving the factory. Is there a method of determining when an update is available. Version #?

    Lowrance Updates

Procedure to see which software version your unit is running:
    Press MENU twice
Scroll to System Setup and press ENT
Scroll to Software Info and press ENT
Software info will be displayed on the screen.

I also have a 522c but I haven’t heard whether the updates are bug free. Has anyone upgraded yet and found problems with the update.
