Boat damage

OK before I talk to my insurance agent I was wondering if anyone has delt with this. I have an older boat and recently inherited a lift that I was told was big enough for my boat. It was but not a good fit. With the boat up on the lift a couple of guys got in the boat and loaded gear, when we took the boat out that day it took on some water. I trailered the boat home an checked it out, 2 good cracks one on each side of the hull. Is this kind of thing covered??

I’m no expert but I’d think it would be covered unless they could prove negligence. If you gave reasonable consideration to the size of the lift and condition of it, then it will be hard for them to say otherwise. Question is what will they pay for? If the cracks are extensive and the boat is old, they may just total it out and cut you a check for the value of the boat.
I doubt they’d pay for repairs if the cost of the repairs outweigh the cost of the boat.

Good luck! I’m sure others will chime in.

anyone know if insurance covers a leak in the boat, due to a loose rivet or missing rivet. i cant find the leak, but i know its probably something to do w/ a rivet somewhere. anyone know if insurance companies cover leaks in the boat? thanks

I wouldn’t count on it. They don’t cover to replace rust holes on a car, so why would they cover a leaky rivet? Besides, don’t you have a deductable? Sure doesn’t seem worth it to even try to claim it once you pay the deductable.

Yeah, i think its a 500 deductible, but last yr i check w/ a place to repair a boat leak.. they sd minimum of 1k dollars cause they have to take the floor off to find exactly where leak is.
