Right, it suprised me a bit, but he drove us Packer Fans nuts.

A bit more Bart Starr stuff. His record in championship games was 9-1 and he was MVP of Super Bowls 1 and 2. He threw 294 consecutive passes without an interception, simply unreal. His interceptions per game are less then Montana’s and when he retired he had the highest pass completion percentage of anyone that ever played the game.

Comparing Starr and Monatana’s interceptions per game is not a fair comparison. Let’s conmpare INTs per pass attempt.
Montana attempted 5391 passes in his career and threw 139 INTs or 1 every 38.784 attempts.
Starr attempted 3149 passes and threw 138 INTs or 1 every 22.818 attempts.

When you compare apples to apples Montana come out on top by a wide margin.

Here is a link to a list of the top 20 quaterbacks of all time using the QB passer rating system which is a good way to judge a QB’s complete game. Only QBs with at least 1500 attempts are listed. web page

Note that Favre is at 15.

Wow, my last post got deleted within a fraction of a minute. The 57.4% comlpetion record Bart Starr had was the highest ever posted by a Pro QB in the history of the league upon his retirement. Remember, things have changed. His record, expecially in championship games is the best ever.

Regarding interceptions, your facts are just plain wrong. I guess you like losers, but suffice it to say I best not say more because this board is very guarded, at best.

I can’t believe I am getting drawn back into this one…the never ending story…

If this is the best way to judge a true quarterback that means that Joe Montana was 4th and Dan Marino was 12th!! WOW!! Hard to swallow when Kurt Warner is ahead of Joe Montana as a true quarterback!! Better yet, Daunte, Chad Pennington, Marc Bulger, Drew Brees, Trent Green, and Jeff Garcia ahead of Marino? This can’t be a true judge of a complete quarterback. Marino behind all of those guys?!?! No way. Elway, Starr, Unitas, and Bradshaw didn’t even make the top 20 and Brain Griese is at 17? I agree one factor in a good quarterback would include this stat, but not the foundation of it all.

Funny what happens when you forget what shirt they are wearing and look at the cold, hard numbers ain’t it?

By the way, Bart Starr is at #37.

Man I throw up two softballs for the Favre/ Packer bashers and not even a nibble. I will throw 1 point in this whole discussion now in all seriousness. There is one thing Favre has over Marino, Elway, Montana, Starr etc. etc. That thing is Favre is still writing his book, there are a few chapters that are to be written that could seal his fate and move him further up the list and even to the top with a couple of “key” victory’s. Like it or not the Packers are a team on the rise but they are very young, it should be fun to sit back and watch!

#4 will probably own most every record in the book by the end of this season. Not to mention he has never missed a game! His starting streak is incredible. In comparison, it makes Cal Ripkens look tame.

Marino was a great passer, Montana was a great team leader, Elway managed the game well, Unitas, Starr and Tarkington were good feild generals. Bret is a great football player who plays his position very well. He is definately in the top 5.

Way to go MUDSHARK, good Post!!!!

Oh yeah, Favre is the greatest quarterback so far, by far.

You can’t really blame the the Viking fans for being on the bandwagon though the way the Viking franchise has screwed things up so often.
I still think Fran T is the second greatest QB so far.
Peyton Manning might move them both down a notch eventually.

By the way, I think Culpepper was one of the worst. Would have made a great tight end though.

Like it was said before, if there is a poor product offered to the consumers we are smart enough to say no, we want better. Call it what you will but at least we are not being lead like a bunch of sheep off a cliff. Talk to us in December about how good they are. I think it will be a different story by then. Everyone one gets lucky every once in awhile.

I don’t want to get sucked into this thread but there was a good article in the Tribune this morning about Farve.

    Farve

Hopefully, we will see a good game this weekend. I tend to get nervous whenever the Pack is favored over the vikes. The vikes do a good job of playing possom against us.

I hope Favre wins the superbowl so the old fart will retire. Then we can rib the pack for years to come about the good ol’ days, remember when #4 was QB. 5 year from now, “He could probably still play!” Can’t you hear the trembling in the cheeseheads voices. They all know this is the end of a very successful run.

One other question about all this BS about the best ever. Why isn’t Tom Brady mentioned on anyone’s list?? Isn’t safe to say they have a dynasty out east, too bad the NFL takes a back seat to BB and Hockey out there.

I think there are a few current QB’s who could become “Great” Brady was just mentioned, and I think he can move up the list. Manning has a passion and an incredible arm. Time will tell, if they stay healty, then they could be chasing Bret’s records. As far as Bret’s season so far, I thought coming through the first three weeks we could be 0-3, I just hope when we get to the easier part of the schedule the green and gold stay sharp.

If Manning stays healthy, he is almost a lock for every major passing record, and will likely go down as the best QB ever, unless Brady keeps putting up great numbers and wins 5 or 6 Super Bowls.

On ESPN, the Pack is favored by either 1.5 or 2 points.

I’d sell you my tickets, but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

If you want to see a Packer game, go to Minnesota, they don’t like going to their games. And if the tickets are sold out, contact the TV station, they have some.

    DaveB,

When did Michael Irvin ever play with Elway?

We should be glad that we have had a chance to see Favre play the game.

    Dear Ziggy,

Thank you , thank you ,thank you SO much for not letting Chili-Dog get on that plane for his interview in G.B.

Alright G, I was done with this thread until you called me blind again. Minnesota fans are pathetic!! So for you guys loving hockey sooooo much in your great state, why did your first hockey team have to pack up and leave town? I noticed the last 8 years the team had 1 winning record. Must have been putting an inferior product on the ice huh? How in the world can you say 1 losing season in 15 years is a franchise that isn’t putting a good product on the field?? I hope the Twins and Vikings pack up and leave town and you guys have to find new teams to be loyal to. Look out Yankees and Patriots you’ve got more coming on board!

Whoa, the North Stars leaving had a heck of a lot more to do with a dumb owner thinking Dallas was an untapped market that he would make more money in then it did attendance by the fans.

Also they have made the playoffs twice in a eight year history once making it to the Western Conferance finals. Much better first years than say Columbus!

I guess if tickets were available to a Packers home game, I’d be first in line.

You can get a ticket to any Packer home Game for face value just go to the game we use to buy from a broker every year until the DREADED remodel or CORPORAZATION of Lambeau now we just show up for the Vikes game and Purchaes from a scalper around game time.

I agree we have no QB and the Point spread on this game makes No sense I look for the Packers to cover the Spread easily.

That being said Farve will still be 5-10 at the Dome and will still have a LOSING record against the Vikings in his career!

Wow, thats cool, I knew ther had to be a way to get tickets without being forced to buy a pre-season game ticket too.

Two more NFL all time records will probably fall this weekend:
    1. All time passing attempts: needs 11 (definite)
    2. All time career touchdowns: needs 1 (probable)

    Favre watch:
    Not great???

Actually it is a misnomer that the North Stars used to sell out their games. In fact the opening game of the 90-91 season (the year they went to the finals), they only sold 5,000 tickets. In the couple seasons after the finals, the attendance was better but a couple years don’t make up for the decade that nobody came. The team sucked and as we have learned here, Minnesota fans only show up if the teams are good.

Green sure wasn’t an angel in this, but he didn’t have much choice but to move because the Met was a dump and the city of Bloomington didn’t want to renovate it and the state didn’t want to build a new arena. The NHL already bailed out the North Stars twice to keep them in Minnesota so they let the team move.
