Dante had better numbers with the Vikings than Farve did. Was he better? Was he great? Was he the best ever?

As a Viking fan, I will say, over the course of his career, Favre has been great. I would say Top 10 all time, maybe top 5, maybe not. Worthy of the term great.

Favre of the last few years has been good, sometimes bad. He is playing better this year, we will see if it continues. The Vikings would be a much better team just by putting him on the field, as he would bring some instant respect from D-Coordinators. Farve would be very good with Adrian Peterson.

I sure hope your not talking about stats for their respective teams, because the comparison is not even close. Moss Boss is right….finally a Viking fan that can apreciate Favre’s accomplishments

As far as the INT’s goes, well that is Favre’s game, he is a gunslinger, willing to take chance’s when others don’t. That is what makes him great. For every bone headed play when you say what the %#$#* was he thinking, he has two were you go- I have never seen anyone do what I just saw.
Favre said it best himself- if there was a record he might care a little about it is the alltime wins record, to him that means the most, in other words he is a winner.

Some of the comments on this post are getting to be just plain silly. I could say more about the silly comments, but would probably be banned from IDA.

The thing about Brett Favre, aside from the records, the Super Bowl appearances, the MVP awards, etc. is the tremendous enthusiasm he brings to the game. I mean how many times can an old guy like Favre pick up and carry a 200 lb. receiver after they score a TD.

He is not calm and cool, like Unitas or Montana, but this guy is the best competitor the NFL has ever had. And yes, perhaps the greatest.

For the record… I never said Favre was not a good or even great quarterback. He is that, no argument. It is a fact, in order to throw the most touchdowns, you gotta be healthy, play alot of games & throw the chit out of the ball. This will lead to interceptions. Difference is, when Favre throws a pick, it’s called taking a chance and wanting to win so bad. When someone else does it, it’s called a poor decision or inadequate quarterback in the pros. Favre will get both records, for what its worth, he earned them both.

Farve does have one more super bowl victory than any viking quarterback does.

Well G let me start by saying I have called Favre many of names on some of his boneheaded plays over the years. I guess I don’t see it like you do. If anything I see it as, “hey you’ve been in the league how long and your still throwing the ball into triple coverage???”
I just don’t understand why alot of Viking fans have to cast shadows onto his records by throwing the INT record out there.

Hey DaveB, Duante wasn’t even in puberty when Favre was throwing TD’s for the Pack, now that is reaching- throwing out the C-pep card. In the actions of Randy Moss

That still makes me laugh. I wish there were still photos out there of the Pac fans when he was doing this on their home turf to end their season.

    Sorry, just kidding around.

Can’t help when my Vikings are having such a great year. Can you imagine what is going to happen when we play SD or Washington?? When I looked at the schedule at the beginning of the year, I’m thinking 3-0 start, even with a rookie QB. GB can go either way at home. So maybe 4-0. Then we split with Chicago, lose to the Bolts and Dallas, but win a couple surprises like Philly and Denver. I was able to talk myself into 9-7 at worst.

Instead I have to hear about how #4 is the best athlete ever. Please. Top 5 QB for sure, not athlete!!! Great QB, is easy for me to say. I have always loved the games against him at the dome. It’s gonna be a slaughter this weekend. The pack don’t have a run game and we have a run defense.

Yup, with Cal, Corey and Steve’s help we knocked it out in about 3 hours. I had about 4 hours of BS to do yesterday trimming it all in etc… Yesterday probably would have went better if I wasn’t so sore.

After reading all of the comments here,it is good to see the cross state rivalry is alive&well! One thing that amazes me is his consectutive starts record which is longer than many a QB entire career.Through all of the good, bad or ugly performances he has always had the support of the GB fans.I dont ever recall a GB game needing a last minute ticket bailout to keep the game from being blacked out, even if #4 throws too many interceptions!
At least he shows up to play the game and has some passion doing it!

How long before he sets the interception record?

Brett Favre Career Interception Record Watch
George Blanda currently holds the record, but Brett is closing in fast! This is where we will keep track of this important milestone.

*Stats Update (9-24-2007) Only two left to tie the record!

George Blanda Stats: Total games played: 340; career interceptions thrown: 277. Which gives Blanda 0.81 interceptions per game.

Brett Favre Stats: Total games played: 244; career interceptions thrown: 275. Which gives Favre 1.13 interceptions per game.

For comparison purposes with an excellent quarterback, Joe Montana threw only 0.72 interceptions per game.

You gotta love the viking fans just hammering him into the ground. I can tell you almost every one of those people would have happily traded all of their quarterbacks over the last 17 years for brett favre. Greatest quarterback ever…maybe not. One of the best to play the game…you bet. I rarely get drawn into the packer viking debate. I acknowledge the vikings and wish them well…even after their fans drive me insane with their unusual positions on football in general. Is the ultimate goal to win a game? In baseball, is it a blemish on a pitcher if he gives up a few homeruns but still gets a win on his stat sheet? Looking back, from my understanding, wins, losses, and strike outs are the main stats. In football standards that would be wins, losses, and touchdown passes. Where was George Blanda on the win list? For that matter, where is Joe Montana on the win list? I believe he probably was the best quarterback in the history of football. So Favre was maybe top ten all time. He is fun to watch and he wins a lot of games. He loses some by being a gun slinger. Live by the sword…die by the sword. Either way you have to respect the guy.

Here are a few simple stats…

    Total Championships won…Minnesota Vikings – 0…Green Bay – 12

    Superbowls won…Minnesota Vikings – 0…Green Bay – 3

If you ask me…those are the main stats. Everything else is trivial.

    Viking fans…let it die…please…

It is what it is. He is a very good player and he has been fun to watch!

I watched Blanda play.I’d be honored to be mentioned in the same breath. If Favre plays till age 50 (bout where Blanda quit)…Favre can get that record too

Definitely, yes!!!!! If a pitcher gives up 20 runs but his teams still wins he still sucked. His team just scored more runs…and in the American League he just sat on the bench while they did.

The most important stat for any pitcher is his ERA. without a doubt.

Not sure what that has to do with football. Apples and oranges if you ask me.

Season ticket holders don’t give up their seats, thus every game is sold out and a waiting list bigger than the number of seats in the stadium. No matter how bad they play, someone will always want to go to a Packer home game. I’m glad I have my season tickets!

bonemover, “let it die” who hangs onto the 13 year old superbowl for dear life. My gawd, pulling out the “league championships” ? Was Favre around for them too ? He has 1 superbowl ring , in 13+ seasons. Surely you know, there are quarterbacks out there, with less seasons played, with more rings…. The Packers can sell out scrimmages, because as I said before, you can sell just about any lump of coal as a diamond, to a blind man.

BTW. If you want to count championships and not Superbowls?? The Vikings have 4 “championships”.

The Packers, in their illustrious history, have put out a chitty product, you will have to agree. They skimped on nickels and dimes here and there, and put out a less than 100 % effort, for their fans. Meanwhile, the fans turn out in droves, giving them their hard earned $$$ for a team that basically is just taking up space on the field, across from the other team. When the Vikings do this, such as this year, the fans say, “you know what, screw you and your million dollar contracts” I guess a big difference is, Vikings fans want to see 100% from their team, not just go to a game, so they can say they are faithful through it all.

Check your history, the Vikings won the NFL Championship in 1970. Also, if he is so great and the Vikings are so bad, why isnt his record better against the purple.

Top 5 ever? Who do you take out: Montana, Young, Marino, Elway, Manning (and those are just from the last 20 years).

not a hundred percent… Kind of like Randy Moss? Vikings lost their soul when they moved indoors to play an outdoor game.

    G,
I think you should leave the guys with their green and gold blinders alone for awhile. We don’t want them to run to their mommy.

Let them live in the past and talk about the good ol’ days.
