Anybody have any experience install one of these? It is legal to have one in my city and I would rather pay the elec. compared to a $280 water bill.

The farmer behind our house said the water table is only around 20′

So I was hoping to put one these babies in to save a bunch of money. Plus I will be planting around 50 trees and bushes in a couple of weeks. The well could pay for itself in a short time.

Also in North Branch there is nothing but sand and no rocks. So I am hopefull it would go down pretty easy.

Any help or pointers where to start would be awesome

There is a bunch of stuff online about do it yourself sandpoint wells. Just google it. From what I read just don’t go with an under powered pump.

I put in 2 sandpoints in the last 5 years. I used a 1-1/4 sandpoint with 30 feet of 1-1/4pipe( they come in 5 foot sections) drive cap and couplings. My water table is about 20 feet down. Make sure you drive the well 10 feet below the water table. You can check with a piece of cloth string attached to a large nut or weight. Drop the string and weight in until it hits the bottom pull it up and then measure how far the water mark on your string is. I purchased everything from Fleet Farm in Hudson WI. I heard that you may need a permit to buy a sandpoint from Fleet Farm or any other store located in Minnesota.

It takes 2 guys to get the couplings tight. One on each pipe wrench. You dont want any leaks or you will loose your prime.

Also what really makes driving the point easier is soaking the ground with water for a couple days before you start driving. On my second well I first dug about 4 feet with a post hole digger and then ran a hose in it for a day. Much much easier. I did my first well with a 12# maul and a 6 foot ladder. My second well I used a heavy duty post pounder. Much easier! I have All sand with no clay. If you have all sand it shouldnt take more than a couple hours of pounding. Have fun!

I forgot to mention to turn the pipe a few times after each section is addede as you go down. It help to keep the sand point from being plugged. When you reached your desired depth flush out the well with water. You should not be able to keep the pipe filled with water. It should run back down out the end of the sand point. Then disenfect by pouring a 10-15% bleach water mixture into your well.

Just wanted to add to Dwale post I have put in a few sandpoints. Make sure to buy the couplings for driving a well. They are much heaver and won`t crack or stretch under the abuse they take while driving the sand point down.

All so check with your local gov`t if in town you may need a permit or may not even be able to put in a well. Or have certain stipulations you might have to follow.

    Yep!
    What these guys said!
    Pretty simple.

When you call the city and ask them………DON’T tell them who you are or where you live. Just ask them if there are city ordinances against a sand point and “where” to get the info.

Call the city and talk to Bridgette Conrad. She will set ya straight on any city ordinances concerning digging of wells or whatever other improvements you want to make to your property.

you just have to be ready for when you sell the property and they will make you pay a fee to fill the pipe to seal it and not able to pull it up first- you will have charges for it and inspectors checking it before and after
