Good to see the Patriots get slapped hard for getting caught with a video camera pointed at the Jets sideline this last week, this after Roger “DaHammer” Gadell said this type of action would not be tolerated at the begining of the year. Last year when the Packers were getting wiped up by the Pats the same camera man was asked to leave the sideline during the game for doing the exact same thing, the Packers did not ask for the camera like the Jets did this last week. After that game Al Harris the Packer CB was quoted “It was like they new what we were doing before we did”. Now the Eagles are coming out on the Super Bowl loss in 05′ and questioning the outcome of that game that the Pats won 24-21. Actually if they were getting this type of edge I wonder if the penalty was stiff enough- $750,000 in fines and if they make the playoffs this year they give up thier #1 pick next year, if they miss the playoffs they give up there #2 and #3.

Nothing but a cheater. Do you ever hear anyone saying what a great guy he is? Never. This is where I take this opporunity to also say……IT WAS A FUMBLE.

Hard? Hardly…. 750 is chump change for these guys. The draft pick is meaningless because they would have picked in the upper 20’s anyway. If the NFL really wanted to stop other teams from doing the same, they should exclude them from the draft completely for a year or two. Or ban them from the playoffs no matter how many game they won this year.

Wow I have not heard about this yet. That just pisses a guy right off. Seems like we are getting more and more cheaters these days or we have had them but now they are getting caught, What ever happened to going out to just play the game. Now its all the money and controversy. They should punish them more than a little pocket change

By no means am I condoning this, but I highly doubt the Pats are the only team to do this. They just happened to get caught and penalized. At least something is being done, although perhaps the penalties should be more.

For the record, I am not a Patriots fan (although I will passively root for them because one of the players is from my hometown and is a good friend of my brother.)

i think Taking away Draft picks is a pretty stiff penalty. Just for example Look at the Timberwolves, granted we lost more draft picks but We are finally recovering from having draft pick taken away, and it took trading our FRANCHISE PLAYER to do it. The Pats are a team that lives off of draft picks. Name 2 Super star players (not named Randy Moss) on the Pats team that they have picked up as a free agent, or in a trade? it just doesn’t happen they do thier research and they draft well. If they miss the playoffs they will feel the hit.

ALL the teams must be using camera’s against the Viking offense!! How else do you exsplain not being able to score touchdowns.

I believe all teams are bending the rules one way or another. The Pats got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, no big deal.

I would like someone to explain how you “grow” lineman to be 300 lbs and run sub 5 second 40 yard dashes.

They are a very shrewd team without a dought, stocked with extra picks every year. This sends a pretty strong message not just to them but every team, I think if they continue this practice they will be allot more secretive and not make it quite so obvious

Its not even a slap on the wrist. Shoulda been more like the fine Mc Laren got in F1 racing.

Maybe forfeit a few games, loose a couple MILLION bucks and banned from playoffs for a few years…kinda like the NCAA death penalty for cheaters.

Might seem far fetched but it would explain some of Farve’s over throws.

Another good job by Goodell the Pats were warned before on this and I think the Fines and lost pick/s were about right.

He really used good common sense judgment again like he has been sense he was hired he didn’t give into the DEATH sentence crowd for a relitivly minor action it would have been ridiculous to have them banned from the draft or playoffs but being stupid enough to be caught with it on a video camera when everybody else is doing it more discreetly the punishment was warranted.

Is that the same Favre who is about to become the QB with most wins in NFL history? The same one who will have more TD passes than anyone in history (and INT’s) the same Favre who won three MVP’s (no other has done it), same Favre who will own every meaningfull record there is? Started more games than any QB without a miss in history times 2…Thats what I thought! I’d rather have the misfits and losers who have been QB’n for the rest of the North for the last 17 years…yeah right….if in that time he has over thrown, bad picks, fumbles etc. It will never take away from the pure joy he brings to the game, and joy to us fans who LOVE him, even when he makes a bone headed play. I remember vaugily all the losers we had before him and all the losers we will see after him, guys very much like Tavarius Jackson and Hex Grossman. Enjoy your QB we will enjoy ours…..

Has anyone other than me noticed no matter what football team we talk about OTHER than the Vikings or Packers, it always, without fail, circles around into a discussion about the Vikings and Packers….Who’s better than who and my team can beat your team….

I’d wager that both teams(Vikes & Pack) have done exactly what the Patriots got caught doing.

Belichick was dumb enough to try it against a former coaching partner who’s stadium just happens to be in the backyard of the NFL. Of course they were laying for him. I agree whole-heartedly with the one article I read. He should have been penalized that amount just for the sake of being dumb enough to try and pull off a stunt like that in a place like that. I can guarantee you there’ll be a LOT less camera men running around this Sunday.

The only thing wrong is that they used a camera. They could have just as easily had a couple people just sit and watch the D coaches without a camera, write down what they saw, and then used the notes to do the same thing. They have several poloroid pictures of every play so all they have to do is compare the notes.
