looks like Pohlad’s tight wallet finally pushed him out the door….. too bad!
September 13, 2007 at 6:55 pm #607916We are losing a great person here. This is a huge change for the organization and is unusual for this organization. Normally, those that leave the front office, do so for promotional reasons. The Twins normally do not make rash decisions and change course too often.
It will be interesting to hear why. If you take the press conference going on now at face value, he’s leaving after 13 years as GM, staying with the organization in another capacity, and has lost his fire and passion for the position. 13 years as GM but I remember talking with him in ’87 when he was scouting director for Andy Mcphail, the previous GM.
With the new ballpark and decisions on the line as to what to do with mammoth contracts for Hunter, Morneau, and Santana looming, this is huge!

September 14, 2007 at 3:32 pm #608175I have said all along that smilin’ Carl can’t be trusted.
I’m not sure if this is salary related or not. I do know that with McPhail, Kelley, Ryan you had three “baseball” people that are no longer there. In my mind we will lose either Hunter, Sanata, Nathan. My gut feeling is we lose two of the three.Carl is a slimeball who’s true colors are about to come out when the stadium is up. If you are an average Joe you will not be able to afford to take a family of 4 to more then a couple of games a year.
September 14, 2007 at 3:46 pm #608179It’s sad seeing Ryan go however Even if he were around I felt like the odds of losing 2 of them were pretty good. I hope we lose Santana, and Nathan, those two guys could bring some seriouse bat’s to the line up. plus I think both are on thier way down the hill, plus we have the guys to replace them. The replacements may not be as dominante, but for the bats they would bring in, I doubt they would need to be. In fact maybe we could even package Mauer into the deal!
September 14, 2007 at 4:59 pm #608201Nice thought, however………….
You NEVER trade a catcher who can throw and hit.
You NEVER trade a left handed Cy Young winner.
You Never allow a gold glove center fielder to get away. Particularly if he happens to be the face of the team. The greatest sin is to allow a banker to control your team. Bad, Bad, bad.
You are correct in that we will lose them guy’s, but you can never replace Maurer and Santana via trades. Stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. One thing I’m absolutly positive of………….
Your ticket price WILL reflect having Maurer, Santana, Hunter,Mornue, Nathen whether we have them or not.
It will be an interesting couple of off seasons coming.
September 14, 2007 at 5:07 pm #608204Well If you Trade Mauer you don’t have to worry about trading a Catcher who can throw or hit, because in the Near future He’s going to be at 2nd or in the out feild. If you keep a left handed Cy young winner who maybe has 2 Really good years left on a team that can’t produce a run does it really matter if he’s on your team? And Hunter You Keep No questions about it. Because When he loses a step n the out feild you shift him to Right or left field.
So trade Nathan, Mauer, and Santana!
September 14, 2007 at 5:15 pm #608212Mauer has a better chance of teaching math at Simley then ever playing second base.
If I recall……….Boston said some guy named Clemons was washed up to. There are only so many guy’s even capable of contending for a Cy Young, you don’t trade them.
September 14, 2007 at 7:57 pm #608245I don’t see the argument here. If we have the money to keep our core players(Mauer, Morneau, Sanatana, Hunter, Nathen) we keep them. There is no prize for being thrifty in MLB!
September 15, 2007 at 8:28 pm #608375Mauer maybe changing spots, but his bat is worth keeping, also the local boy makes good angle. Hunter you keep. Morneau you keep, too good, too young! Santana, I could see going. As great as he is, you could get alot in a trade.
FRIVERS2Posts: 240September 16, 2007 at 1:18 am #608393Does anyone know how old Carl Pohlad is. I met him over 30 years ago, and am just wondering if he is senile.

92 I think it’s safe to say he is.
