The Vikings played a good overall game today. I realize it was only against a lowly Atlanta team but they looked solid.

The offense did not make too many mistakes and the defense looked great. They may need to tighten up a little on the outside plays but so far so good. Two interceptions returned for TD’s and, I believe, 6 sacks sounds good to me. I love how they called the defenses and sent the boys after the QB rather than relying on the front four to get pressure.

I realize it is only one game into the season but a big thumbs up to the purple and gold.

    Go Vikes!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh come on, Lenny!! They played the FALCONS!!!

Now, the Green and Gold played a playoff contender and came out with a victory – maybe not pretty, points from special teams and turnovers – but a win none-the-less! Saw some vintage Favre out there – making plays when he had no business making plays….

I made a point not to pick on the Packer or the Bears for playing so terrible today. I didn’t want to start off on you guys the first week of the season but since you boys brought it up here goes.

I didn’t see much of the Packers game….I live in Viking country so they only turned to the Pack after the Vikes took care of business.. but I did see enough to see Favre overthrow, underthrow, and generally miss everyone he attempted to throw to, oh, I almost forgot about the fumbling. As you say vintage Favre. All of this when the Eagles were short handed at d-back. As long as he is in the game the other team has a shot at winning. Shall we talk of there scorching running game????????? Did they break 40 yards running for the game???? They were dang lucky to get out of there with the win, we all know they sure did not earn the victory.

The Bears…..Well, they just suck!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have a QB that is actually worse than Brett Favre. I don’t think there is much else to say about that!!!!!!!

WELCOME TO FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!!!

Ialways over-react, but I do think the Packer Victory was very important to this team.

As for the Vikes, who knows, I have just sprend two much time fishing lately to keep upon both teams.

Didn’t watch the Pack but I did listen on the radio, sounded like Favre got knocked around pretty good, the D came up big in secound half and the special teams were special all game. It will take a few weeks for there offense to get going. Congrats to the Vikings, didnt see it but hey two defensive TD’s is a great way to start the season. Great win for the Lions also. That brings us to Da Bears, they are firmly entrenched at the bottom of the standings after losing to San Diego, first place schedules suck- don’t they? It was a great day of football but it will be a long season. One last note: Bret Favre is now tied with Elway for the most wins all time for a QB in the NFL, this is the begining of many elite records this greatest of great QB’s will break this season…..

A few notes. Brett missed a few, including a big one but not as bad as your stated. The biggest problem with the Pack offense was the lack of a running game, and if you all go back about six weeks I was disgusted with the Pack not signing Anman Green. This new kid from Nebraska can run through holes, but has no power to get the few extra yards.

With that said this was an extremely important game for Green Bay and I have no doubt they will win their division. The division is not very strong and for once the Packer Defense will end up with the team in first place.

You guys will soon find out that I tend to overemphasize the Vikings strong points as well as the other teams downfalls.

Anybody that has not been through a football season here on IDA should know that I, as well as a few others, like to jab at each other over which team is better at that given time. It is all in good fun and no malice is intended. If I offend anyone it is not intended. And, as always, feel free to heckle me at will on all things football related.

What I saw was Jackson playing a conservative game, and trying not to do anything to give it away. (Which has been a Viking trait for way too long.) He was servicable, and that was exactly what they are looking for. One thing blatantly absent was a down field game. How many did they throw, three? Maybe? But again, the first 4 games on the Vikings schedule are practice ( ) games. If Jackson can learn, get the feel for game situations and actually win a few… then

I don’t see the Vikes going more than 7-9 this year. I see the Pack even lower…I see the Bears and Detroit punching it out for the Norris Division Championship.

Hey if you cant dish out a little crap on your favotite fishing site (and thus have to take it) where can you??? Myself and Honda been going at it for a few weeks now with the Cubbies and BrewCrew, while my team is making its move here in the last few days, I think I’ll wait a day or two and see if this trend continues before I smack it up////all in good fun!

Compared to the ailing offense of last year, conservative or not, they looked a little better today. I think Peterson can develop into a very good back and Jackson, well…….. he showed his inexperience today but not to the level I’ve seen others do. He wants to learn to do it right. If he does…… could be a shot at making the playoffs.

Lenny, here’s my .02. Favre, for the 1st time since he started playing imho, looked old. He tried to give that game away twice. The defense refused to let it happen. They beat a team today that many picked to be NFC East champs. this was one game that many Packer fans had penciled in as a big L.

As Viking/Packer debaters, I think there’s only one thing we can agree on…….

Life is good when the Bears have sole position of last place in their division!!!

I agree Ken. When you watch a San Diego, New England or an Indianapolis Colts you realize how far anybody in our division is away from having a team that could compete for the Super Bowl.

That is pretty much the same quote I made this weekend! I do think the Vikes defense will be impressive this year and it was nice to see AP have a big game. They have to to stretch the field though or it will be a long year on offense.

Words not to use in the same sentence.

    Playoff team………..Vikings

    Division winner……..Packers

    Quality quarterback……..Jackson

    Offensive genious……………Childress

Top 30 uniforms…………….Vikings (geez they are ugly)

Quality receivers………..Vikings, (ok so I never really heard it said they have quality receivers.)

If the Bears ever put a running game together and Grossman developes into an average quarterback they will again be the team to beat. The Viking / Packer debate will rage on until week 10 when everything will be decided.

Chins up, it’s almost hockey time in Minnesota!!

I don’t know that the Pack special teams were all that special. The TD and the end of the game muff were all on Philly. They gave that game to you. The reality that you should know is that Philly won’t make those mistakes in the playoffs. Jan. football is way different fellas. There was an expression shown on the face of a fan after that late game muff, I could read his mind so here it goes. “Oh goodness, I can’t believe that we have a shot to win this thing, Favre is old and killing my team, our D is weak and running game is terrible. But oh God, please let us make this fieldgoal so I have one more week of glory before it all goes down the toilet.”

Vikes D is incredible!!! Like what was said earlier. TJ (and yes he already has initials) can manage a game and not screw up. Let the D take over. Look at some of the more recent SB winners and their QB’s

    Baltimore- Trent Dilfer
    Tampa Bay- Brad Johnson
    Pitt- BigBen

Basically what I got out of this post is…..(let me see if I got this right) The Packers suck and are lucky…..The Vikings are awesome and have an awesome D……And stand back the Vikings are probably going to the SB. Anyone know what the odds are in Vegas..I’ve got to get in on this!

That’s about right. Actually the Packer Defense played great and the Packer Receivers will have much better days. However, their running game is terrible. The kid from Nebraska just doesn’t have a lot of strength. Wish they would have signed Anman Green.

Way too early to tell anything about how the NFC central will end up. Main thing is to win enough games to get into the playoffs and be playing your best football at that time. Last year the Pack had a poor start and lost a couple of games that were very winnable. But at the end of the year they were playing some of the best football in the NFL. Packers got lucky and beat a good Philly team. Any coach will tell you that they can point to 2 or 3 plays that cost them the game. Detroit beat a bad Oakland team. Same with the Vikings beating a bad Atlanta team. Did not watch too closely, but saw 2 instances where the Falcon defenders had the ball in their hands and dropped it. The Vikings meanwhile scored 2 defensive touchdowns. Cannot say about the Bears as I did not watch the 2nd half. Da Bears hung with San Diego for the 1st half, but Rivers was having a horrendous half.

Hehe,,You somewhat got it right (The Packers did get lucky, and if you disagree with that you are wearing Green and Gold blinders(which most of you are)). Who ever said anything about the Vikings going to the superbowl? After referencing a great D, I went on to say that there are super winners that had a great D and not much of a QB. I am emphasizing how a great Defense can negate an average QB. You need to either take your time when reading or go back to JuCo and take a communications class.

Now calm down, it’s just friendly banter….

I did notice one of your fellow mud ducks read it the same as I did. And the TD the Pack got was a forced muff. Here you go compare the 2 defenses……

allowed –> (pts) (yds) (pass yards) (rush yds)

    Packers (13) (283) (180) (103)

    Vikings (3) (265) (169) (96)

AND!! The Queens did it against the lowly Falcons!

Don’t forget to order your playoff tickets early!
