Serious football season starts in December… I don’t care who the team is. I choose the indulge in the outdoor sports, over watching a bunch of overpaid felons anyday.

    2 things:

    1. The Vikings will sell-out their opener if for no other reason than FOX would be crazy not to pick up the remaining tickets for all the advertising revenue they would stand to lose. It would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $250,000.

    2. Even if there is a blackout, there would be no other game to take it’s place due to leauge rules.

There is no chance the game will be blocked out. As was said earlier FOX would be stupid to let it happen. On another note, Ziggy cannot let it happen either. Here he is begging for a new stadium. He cannot afford to give the opposition any ammo, he would come out of this whole deal looking like an idiot and cannot afford to lose any leverage he might have if any. Just my 2 cents.

I don’t know much about the blackout rules so hopefully you can explain further.

    1. How does Fox lose revenue on a blackout? Doesn’t the game still get televised outside of the metro area? I would also guess there are rules against the networks buying the tickets, otherwise there would never be a blackout.

    2. When I first moved to the Cities 10 years ago, we always got the Packer games because the Queens couldn’t sell out. Is that a rule change about not televising any games in place of the Queens game?

    Thanks.

    I just educated myself…
    blackout policy

Fox can buy the tickets. And if there is a blackout, the Packer game will be on.

MINNEAPOLIS — FOX 9, in partnership with the Minnesota Vikings, have reached an agreement to purchase the remaining tickets to Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. FOX 9 and the Minnesota Vikings will donate the tickets to local charities.

The Vikings game on Sunday will be televised on FOX 9 at 12:00 p.m. A statement from the Vikings is expected shortly.

On Friday morning, the Vikings had 1,200 tickets to sell to avoid a blackout. The deadline was extended to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. The previous deadline was 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.

NFL requires the Vikings to sell 62,000 tickets to consider the Metrodome sold out. A blackout would have kept the game off TV screens in the Twin Cities, Rochester, Mankato, Austin, Alexandria and other areas in the region.

    The Vikings will find out.

If you are going to lie to us you better put a winning product on the field.

BTW, for all you gambling guy’s out there I heard the spread was like 3 points on Wednesday. If I recall Vegas GIVES YOU 3 POINTS JUST ABOUT ALL THE TIME FOR HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. So…………..Vegas feels Atlanta without a quarterback is just as good as the Vikings without a quarterback. Should be a whale of an offensive game, sorry I’ll miss it.

Your Vegas info. Good info. However, Here are some numbers for you

    Harrington Career Starts: 66
    Vick Career Starts: 67

    Harrington Career Passing Yards: 12,478
    Vick Career Passing Yards: 11,565

    Harrington Career Touchdowns: 72
    Vick Career Touchdowns: 71

Vick entered the league in 2001 and Harrington in 2002. I really don’t think the Falcons passing game will drop off all that much this year. Do you?

Harrington is probably a better passing QB than Vick, who is the best passing RB in the league. Or, WAS, since I doubt he ever plays again.

No one runs on the Vikes D, heck, most don’t even try. Not having Vick is probably a positive for Atlanta in this game.

My though this morning when I heard about the possible blackout was exactly that…”Great, they want me to pay for a new stadium and they can’t fill what they have.” Yeah, I’m all for that.

Wonder if I can get the state of MN to pay for a third of a new boat for me? I know Fox Sports will be picking up a third.

    My 3 choices:
    1. Do not watch football on TV.
    2. Watch the Vikings on Sunday.
    3. Listen to the Packers on the radio in my boat.

    Hope the fish are biting!

I’m in agreement. I think the loss of Vick is worse for the Vikings. And Harrington, if memory serves me right, annihilated the Queens as a member of the Dolphins last year?

I love the Vikings but…….my hope for this year is that they bottom out further so they can continue to add “true impact” players via the draft. Peterson was a great step in the right direction. Give Jackson a year under his belt, add another piece, continue to build the D and we can rebound in style.

Jackson needs to go through a year like Aikman did when he was what 3-13. This team can’t rebuild with a bunch of mid-level draft picks.

Go Falcons! Here’s looking for the #1 draft pick for the Vikes.

    Eric

PS The vikes need a new stadium. We need to demolish the Dome. The Twins will soon be out, the Gophers are out soon, we need to get the Vikes out too.

Except for the fact if the Vikes get the #1 pick in the draft it will be because Jackson was horrendous, and the Number one pick will be QB Brian Brohm.

I just think it’s sad that the Vikings can’t sell out anyways. Where is fan loyalty? The Packers have struggled the past few seasons there is still a LONG waiting list not to mention a ticket runs anywhere from $175 – $300 – So double the cost of a Vikings ticket? Is it the Dome? I doubt it? My perspective – Packer fans stay Packer fans through the good and bad – Viking fans – Bandwagon. Not a smart place to post this but it does seem true!

Saddly because of the loss of Vick the Vikings have aless of a chance of winning. Harrington isn’t a threat to Run. ( some of the only D the Queens know how to play) So I’m sure we’ll see alot of play action, watching Harrington drop back in the pocket tack a nap, and wait for an alarm to go off when a receiver get’s open.

Packer fans are die hard no matter what. How many teams still root their team on no matter what the conditions, sunny and 100 with humidity or blowing snow with -4o below. Packers fans are die hards and do whatever it takes to get into lambeau to watch a game. It is always sold out. I dont mean to rip on Minnesota fans but it is true about the bandwagon, But hey your not alone. Many states teams are like that

I really have to question everyone saying how good the Viking run defense is. With their pass defense why would anybody want to run??

    Harrington…….Vick…….don’t matter. Vikings can’t score.

For starters I recomend Demolishing the dome with the team still in it. that way you start over from scratch… (trust me on this it’s a brilliant Idea I’ve been praying for this to happen to my timber puppies for years now.)

Secondly I can’t argue the fact that thier run D is only so good be cause running is pointless. I mean why run and rish injury when you can just pass and score?

I think you are tryiong to compare two very different markets. What does Green Bay, and northern Wisconsin for that point, have to offer for pro sports? Football, that is it. The Twin Cities has pro baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. Not to mention the U right in the cities too. I will have to admit there are bandwagon people, but the majority of the lack of interest comes from to many options. And anyway who the he** would pay $300 for a NFL ticket.

Your point is well taken, but then think that the population of Green Bay is less then 200,000, and if their is even a SMSA, perhaps less then 400,000.

Like them or not Packer fans are special. I remember living in St. Cloud, MN. in the mid-70’s and sitting in my car listening to the Pack games on the River Falls and Eau Claire Radio Stations.

I hate losing teams, but for whatever reason I have never missed hearing, watching or listening to a Packer Game since 1957.

We are different, albeit some shrink might say we have a few problems with our devotion to the Pack.

Sorry all you Vike fans will miss the Packer Game on Sunday.
