Heading up Sunday to spend a week on Pools 4 & 5. Can anyone update me on flow rates, water clarity, and the bite. My club (Quad-Cities In-Fisherman) has been making this annual trip now for 22 years and since I found this site I always consult this site for up to date info before I head to Alma. Any info that you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated, as we don’t have a fishery in our back yards like most of you on this site do.

If you are in the Alma area through out the week please feel free to drop in the Hillcrest and talk fishing with us. I am sure we will be able to russle up a cold one to make your stop worth while.

    Johnny,

You should see a good bite in Alma and on lower 4 right now. Try trolling and throwing cranks along the wingdams. The crappie bite has been fantastic as well. Stop in at my dads shop and I am sure he will get you steered in the right direction.

    Current Stage & Flow

Water conditions have been very stable with good clarity. The bite on this end of pool #4 has been ok….not great. As Jared mentioned ,casting and trolling cranks are effective presentations now.Dragging live bait also has its merits as well.Hope you have a great trip!

I’m sorry I don’t have any up to date info. But we we’re in Alma about 4 weeks ago and found the cat fishing to be pretty good both above and below the lock and both from shore and in the boat. We also ran into some very nice bluegills not far below the damn and watched a fellow and his sons pry some nice paper mouths out of the rocky shoreline as well.

We also stay at Hillcrest when we go. The folks there are always very nice and the rooms are cozy and priced right. There is also a new place right in town across from the art gallery. I can’t recall the name but it is something fancy sounding, the lady that owns it was very friendly. If your into art that shop is a nice place to check out, they have a painting of the GAFF that is very nice. Reminds me I need to go back and get my copy.

I’d love to hit the water again but house duties have been calling. I love Alma and miss going there as much as I once did. The people are very friendly and the town is always bustling with activity in the summer. I hope you have a good time and catch some fish.

over the weekend i took the kids down and pulled up on a sand bar between 2 wing dams and casted out from shore with a hook and worm and my daughter caught 18 sunnies that were all around 10 inches in about 2 hours!

we were about 20 yards down stream of the wing damn!

thats all we fished so if thats something your interested in i thought i would share!

    good luck!

Thanks for the info guys. It’s always a good time at Alma. Hope to see many of you on the water. I will be fishing a gray Alumacraft Phantom, if you see me out there come on over and say hello.

Where is the Hillcrest. I spend a fair amount of time on Pool 5, but normally stay at Merrick State Park and fish 5 through 6. If anyone has a phone number or Internet Site for the Hillcrest please respond.

    Thanks
