Best polarized sunglasses?????

I am in the market for a nice pair of polarized sunglasses. I have been fishing with all kinds of cheaper versions of polarized sunglasses and I tend to go through a couple a year due to scratches or the lenses pop out and so forth.

I am looking for a lightweight pair that is comfortable all day long for several days in a row without giving me a headache around the temples…..

    Any suggestions?

I personally like Maui Jim’s but they have glass mens which is heavy. I like the scratch resistance of the glass lenses and they are the clearest I’ve ever seen.

My brother has a pair of the titanium fames which are super light and loves them.

I really like what Solar Bat has to offer. They have many styles in all price ranges. You can choose your lens colors. I’d really like to try out the new lens’s they have out this year. They have gradient lens’s. The bottom of the lens is amber colored and it transitions to the mossback green on the top half. They are supposed to be the perfect all around lens for both bright sun and low light conditions. Right now I have a pair of each. The Amber is great in low light and the Mossback it perfect the rest of the time. The Mossback it the perfect site fishing colored lens.

    Thanks alot guys….keep em coming.

I am also a big fan of the amber colored lenses for the lowlight vision. That gradient lense combonation sounds interesting?

Costa Delmars are tough to beat.

Here is another good thread but a MOD will have to fix the flaw in the system that will not allow me to link it properally.

I’ve got Costa Del Mar Wavekillers with glass lenses. They’re not extremely light, but the optical quality is the best!!!

I’ve got a pair of Maui Jims that I’ve had for 6 plus years now. They are heavier and fairly expensive (180.00). The glass lenses are awesome.

The thing I am most impressed with about Maui Jim is their repair service. I’ve sent them in 3 times now. I dropped them on a sidewalk and cracked a lense. They charge 60.00 to replace both of the lenses. I also broke the arm on one side and the third repair was when the arm pulled out from the hinge. All of the problems were my fault. I guess I am an accident waiting to happen. Except for the lense replacement, all they charge is shipping and handling (8.95). From the time I mailed them, I had them back within a week and a half.

The system is working. Use the Instant UBB Code for adding a URL to your post. That function is listed as “URL” in the UBB Code panel.

Click URL, paste the address into the window that opens… and walla!

I like my Oakley half jackets with the XLJ lenses. They are so light you can’t feel them on your face and with the inter-changeable lenses it allows you to switch for different lighting or water conditions. they may not be as specifically geared towards fishing as costa del mar or maui jim in there lens selection but i still have no problem finding lenses that fit my needs. Either way there are alot of good quality optics out there i just prefer oakleys because of the comfort and versatility of not having to own 3-4 pairs of sunglasses.

I got a pair of these this year and really like them. Three lenses are better than one…

Best advice is to go into a specialty shop or glasses shop. I just can’t trust buying an expensive pair of glasses at Gander Mountain/Sportsman Wrhse when no one knows anything about them.

Lots of good brands here. Go into Sunglass hut or even an eye exam place like Lenscrafters and try on 20-30 of them. The best ones will fit YOU like a glove.

For me it was Ray-Bans and have had them all summer and love them.

I’ve owned three pairs of Costas, two pairs of Maui Jims, two pairs of Oakleys, and two pairs of Ocean Waves. Musky fishing makes a good pair of shades really important so you can see follows. The Ocean Waves are the best, hands down, in the backwater green lenses. Seriously, Steve, you’ll see those smallies from a mile away. Mauis and Costas are both really nice, but not quite as good in my experience. Maui Jim has a “rose” colored lens with just a bit of mirror on it that is really good in low light and overcast conditions, but I prefer my backwater green Ocean Waves for overall use. (The green costa lens is pretty good, too, but I’m telling ya…) Go try on a few pairs to see what fits your face the best. I think the ones I have are the Venezuela frame, and they’re darn comfortable.

This post peaked my interest in a new set also. I’ve noticed a great feature with the Ocean Wave brand and their low cost repair in event of a breakage outside of a warranty issue. Here is a link: Ocean Wave Repair

I agree completely…the last place I would go is to some place like Everts Resort to buy something like Costa Del Mar’s Costa 580’s.

I’m sure most places that carry good brands of sunglasses have the try before you buy demos.

I was going to recommend Smith since that is all I use however they are not the lightest glasses out there. Also I blind picked a pair of their fishing glasses on the net and they are not as comfortable as past models I have used. I would highly recommend going someplace you can try them on before purchase. The only high-end place I can think of is Cabelas since they carry several. Most Sunglas huts dont have a great choice for fisherman.

my vote are for Costa Del Mars. Very light and do a great job in looking into the water.

Probably the best bang for the buck IMO, is the Cabela’s brand wrap. I don’t have the model, but they’re 59.00. They come in amber or smoke colored lenses. I like them becuase there’s virtually no gap between the glasses(frame) and the corner of the eyes. They’re also light weight.

WOW I want to be Like those guys Seriously I think from what I’ve heard the 580 are the best available right now. I hear a lot of good stuff about natives too.

Personally I don’t care if I go to a store and they knwo nothing about them, I do my research before hand, when I shop I don’t need people to sell me things.

That is unless I’m at the bait shop, you can sell me whatever lure is suppose to be hot right now

I have the Caymans from Smith Optics and love them. I have the copper lenses–they work great on bright days and actually brighten things up when it’s a bit overcast. They fit my melon well and I can wear them all day with no discomfort.

My wife got them for me as a birthday gift from Three Rivers Outdoors here in La Crosse for about $130.

I used Ocean Wave Bandannas for many years due to the headache from temple pressure and love them. Still do. I pick up a set of Costa “Man o War” and really like them as well.

I came out of a pair of Maui Jims, and Ray Bans b4 them. I researched a lot of different brands, but kept coming back to the Costa 580 ambers. Unbelievable low light capabilities. Plus colors so vivid, you will find yourself taking them off, and putting them back on because you just don’t “Believe” your eyes! For bass sight fishing, these are FANTASTIC! Polarized and UV blocking for headache free days!
I would get them from Dean, and I would absolutely get the 580 lenses. Their warranty says they are the last pair of sunglasses you will ever have to buy! They warranty them, with no receipt needed. Ever.
Dean has a bunch to chose from. I know Waller uses the blue lenses, and loves them!

Solar Bats with the Mossback green lens. These are by far the best sight fishing glasses I have used. Can really see those bedding smallies in low light with these!!

Thanks for smiling back at me Brian. I don’t put the personal touch service you get at Everts in the same class as the often (not always) average to poor service you get at a big box store.

It always amazes me as to the breadth of products available from Dean. I would have never thought to recommend buying sunglasses there.

But again, that’s not really my job is it?
