Hello everyone- I know this has been discussed here on many occasions but I need my own piece of mind. Several IDA guys and I are heading to Lake Tobin in Saskatewan in early October. We are not driving, we are all flying. Because of the long delays to get passports do we need a passport to fly, or will a drivers licence and a birth certificate be enough? I only ask because I have heard different stories over the past 2 weeks from different sources, so I thought I would come to where I know I will get the straight dope.

    Thanks,

    John

I’m not sure of the answer John…but I do know you don’t want to say “passport” and “dope” in the same sentence.

I know for sure that you need a passport if you are flying into Canada on the dates you mentioned. Right now, if you fly into canada, you must have proof of application for a passport if you are flying into canada before sept. 30. After sept. 30 you must have one.

If you need to get it expedited for free, I was told to talk to your congressperson and they will expedite for free.

I would apply TODAY if you plan on getting one. Its a 10 week lead time and it might already be too late.

    Good luck

Just to confirm, my son got a passport this summer within 3 weeks for the extra $60. We went through the Hennipen Cty Government Ctr at Southdale, and was even able to schedule an appointment online, so the wait was about 5 minutes at the center.
