My wife and i went to Lake Minnewaska this past week end to stay at my brothers brother in law’s place. (say that 3 time fast)
Anyway the fishing started out pretty slow. i guess going from a river to a lake takes some getting used to. I tried the reeds they had there for large mouth and was very disappointed. i think that it was my misunderstanding of the lake conditions that prompted that idea. the water was 75 degrees, but it is a lake.
i caught a couple of decent fish in the 2-3 lb range but nothing i was hoping for. So moved over to some rocks that i thought might have some promise, but than again it is a lake. nothing but shorties.
i just could not figuer out how to catch the 4-5 lb fish i knew were there. i caught lots of fish on a Yank ’em sunny jig with a watermelon and green orange flake Fat Albert from Zoom and even more on a Zoom lizard with a died tail. i just couldn’t get the good ones to bite.
So to the lake house i went disappointed. i gave my wife the sunny jig and told her i couldn’t keep them off. (i did tell her they were small) She casually walked out as far from shore as she could and started fishing. i don’t think she had that much luck, but stayed out there with that jig for hours.
The next day my brother, my brother in law, and i decided to take my nephew out fishing. i had a pretty decent idea of were to catch small fish and lots of them. so we went there.
With my wife on my boat and my nephew and the rest on the other we set off for the for mentioned rocks i could only catch short fish on.
My nephew had a good time in a couple of hours he had racked up 3 bass and 1 blue gill. To a kid from an Iowa farm they were all monster fish.
We all caught fish. the only person that really did any real fishing though was my wife. She brought in the biggest and the most of them. Damn that sunny jig.
Anyway here are a couple of pics from our short trip and my piece of humble pie.
