In northeastern South Dakota where picturesque glacial lakes are commonplace, Roy Lake is outstanding. This 2,000 acre lake, located midway between Britton and Sisseton on South Dakota Highway 10, is popular for its excellent fishing, swimming, beach facilities, cabins, lodge rooms, numerous camping sites and scenic attractions.
Roy Lake Resort and State Park has the variety and atmosphere for outdoor living at its best. If your stay is for a weekend fishing trip or an extended vacation, you can he assured the environment of Roy Lake will give you many hours of relaxing and enjoyable recreation.
Evidence of a prehistoric Indian village has been discovered at Roy Lake. Preliminary work by the state archaeologist has identified artifacts found as belonging to the Great Oasis Culture whose people occupied this region about 900-1300 A.D. The Roy, or Roi, family is credited with building the first recorded non-Indian settlement. Local Indians called the crops planted along the lake shore the “Roy Planting,” and the name has persisted. In 1946 Roy Lake was brought into the state park system after completion of land acquisition. From a beginning of a few cabins and dirt roads, the area has developed into a popular state park and resort for family fun and recreation.
A swimming beach, excellent boat launching facilities, picnic areas, campgrounds and foot bridge to Roy Island (including some handicapped areas) are supplemented by the modern resort. Modern cabins include full kitchen and bathroom facilities with your choice of one or two bedrooms. There are also lodge rooms available for the hotel like person. Everything you’ll need boats, motors, live bait, and cafe with breakfast and lunch as well as standard grocery staples is available at Roy Lake Lodge and Resort!

Quote:
Before moving to the resort, Chris, Charles (my two sons) and I were involved in Wildlife Rehabilitation, Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts, Scuba Diving, & traveling to Minnesota for annual fishing trips.
I also held an elected position of City Council Person in League City, Texas a city of 35,000. I got into this by heading a task force against gangs. We were very successful in dissolving these gangs so then the Mayor and Chief of Police asked me to run for office. I won carrying 5 out of 6 precincts. I also learned the true meaning of Murphy’s Law: Every one exceeds their capabilities at some point and political office was it. It is not a family-friendly job and takes an immense amount of time.
My customers are wonderful.
Many of them have stayed with me thru the hard times of rebuilding, remodeling, and new construction. Always appreciative of what I do and not dwelling on what I didn’t get done that year.
My employees know what is expected and they do their jobs willingly and with a smile. They are self motivated and self-directed and require very little supervision. The boys and I are so pleased to have taken on this task of re-building one of the most well known resorts in S.D. for the past 50 years.
I hope that we have done it justice and that it will be a place of refuge, a place of rejuvenation of the family spirit for everyone, whether you come here for a meeting, family recreation, reunions, fishing, hunting or whatever else comes up.
Now, Chris graduates from Dakota State University, Charles plans to graduate from the University of Houston in another year. I married Jim Pitzl, a farmer/rancher on Cattail whose most repetitive description of me is that I am “definitely blond.” Jim is a hard worker and wants to help everyone enjoy their stay here as well.
Jim and I are going to learn how to bass fish, and continue to try to make your stays here comfortable and fun and we look forward to doing this for years to come.
I like to treat people the way I want to be treated.
May everyone have a happy life and happy memories of their stay at Roy Lake Resort.
Again, thank you to all of the people who have helped me through out the years.
Jan, Chris and Charles.
