Heading to the Vikes game tonight and wondering if anyone has any suggestion on taking the light rail to the dome? Can’t take 35w easily anymore and thought about possibly parking a ways away.

-Any good areas to park and hop on the light rail? Maybe somewhere close to a good bar or something.

-How much is a light rail ride….does it cost much?

If you are coming from the South:

I do know a couple of guys who hop on the rail at the MOA. Not much for for bars other than Hooters in the area.

I think it might be $5 or $10 to hop on the rail.

Coming from the north….thus why 35w wont work. Looks like the warehouse district may be our best option and has plenty of bars!!

If you can take the light rail, you can take 35W. The bridge was on the north end of town, so traffic can move from the south into MPLS.

The light rail is fine. I take it for all events. Some convienent spots to get on are Fort Snelling (Highway 5 and 55 intersection) and Mall of America.

It costs $3 (if memory serves me). There are a few bars along the way, but you would technically have to pay each time you stop. I think there is a event pass that is good for 6 hours or something that might work. The stops w/ bars that are near Minnehaha Pkwy right after the VA hospital, then Caboose/Whiskey Junction. It is near a bunch of bars in downtown MPLS too.

You might end up taking it for all events just to avoid the traffic/parking headaches. Unless you want to tailgate, it is perfect for sporting events/concerts.

OK…but coming from the north (going south on 35w from Blaine) I guess I could take the 4th st exit near the U and use the back roads to get to the dome. Otherwise everything I see for the light rail is south of the Mississippi river, and 280 has roadwork scheduled all weekend starting tonight at 8:00 pm so no efficient way to get there.

either way…..not to complicated…we will just take 94 in from the west since it can take you right into the warehouse district and take the rail from there! GO VIKES!

I say if you are coming from the south LR @ Fort Snelling is my method. There is TONS of parking, and there is the FS club fairly close by, which has cheap drinks. so I’ve heard

Its so simple bud. I live in Lino Lakes and work downtown.

35w south to 694 west to 94 East into the cities. Take the 4th st exit into MPLS. There are a ton of bars right when you get into town.

to get to the dome just keep on going on 4th all the way. Find a sopt to park and your good.

Also the train is really cheap. $.50 in the downtown area and maybe a buck or two to head out to the mall.

BTW you can stop at whiskey junction for a couple cheaper stong drinks, and a snack before the game, we do, not sure they let anyone under 21 in, but we don’t have that issues so I wouldn’t know.

colklink83 hit the nail on the head with those directions. probably the easiest way to get there. Going from the north to the south just to take the train could waste valuable beer time. Plenty of decent bars along the route once in downtown.

If coming from Blaine you could also just take Central/hwy65 all the way into downtown if you dont mind some stop lights. It goes straight south, curves a little into downtown, bridge over the river (I think its open) to Washington or a few blocks more to 4th St. look left and you should see the dome or head to the right up towards 1rst Ave and you’re in the warehouse dist.

I HATE stop lights so 65 is out of the question (but thought about doing it)!!

Like I said…it’s not a big deal…just never rode the light rail before and don’t want to park by the dome with everything going on.

    94 it is!
