Just talked to my brother, Terry. He is there right now helping with the search and rescue Teams. He works for the Corps of Engineers on the dam right there. All he said was start saying some prayers. Its not pretty..

I just walked in the door and saw this on ESPN (talking about this related to the twins game). I had to get on IDA and make sure no one here got hurt. Just flipped on the national news channels and it’s on most of them. Looks terrible! My thoughts and prayers are with my friends to the north.

I’m sure there are injuries but I do hope there are no fatalities. I’ve got that same sick feeling in my stomach as well. How can something that large fail in such a big way?

I don’t get it either!! How could this happen? Has anyone heard reporters say anything in relation to a bomb?? FBI involved? Prayers go out to anyone involved.

Unbeleivable! A friends son travels it every day, and crossed about 2 hours prior to the collapse. He is still a bit upset.

Channel 11 just said the FBI and Homeland Security people are involved, but they are assuring us that it was structural.
But they also said it was strange because the bridge is built in many many sections… strange that the whole thing fell like that.

Took it home myself tonight after work!
It sounds like an amazingly low number of injuries, and deaths. Let’s hope it stays that way…

Words cannot describe what has just happened.

All I can say is lets NOT speculate what happened right now, instead just pray for all those involved and we can get answers later.

My prayers go out to all involved.

    This is unreal.
You always worry about the other guy on the road not the road going out from under you!
I questioned MNDot on the way the new river crossing in SSP-Newport was handled with misalignment and using tension cables on stress cracks in poured supports.
This bridge had the de-icing system installed a few years back.
Prayers and Well wishes out to all involved.
I am always astounded how rescue personel roll into action and risk their own lives. Words escape me. True heros!

Yes, Gov.P just mentioned that the bridge was inspected in 04,05,06. Now WCCO is reporting on the bridge itself. Kind of distorted information but it looks like there were definite questions regarding the bridge durability.

I almost went down thr tonight at about 5:00pm after having a nice muskie folllow on Monday. Luckily it was too hot and I decided to wait till around 7:00 instead. Hopefully things turn ot as best they can for such a tragedy.

As I sit here typing this, I have goose bumps and I don’t get them too often. I cross that bridge 2x per day and today I crossed it just minutes before it went down. I feel very fortunate to not have been involved in the unfortunate event that took place just behind me. At the same time my heart goes out to all who are affected by it and can only hope the loss of life and injuries are minimal. I guess it’s tough for me to invision how my family would function if one day I didn’t come home to them. Inevitably that will happen to some in our community here tonight and they are in my prayers.

    God Bless

Ok,information on the construction workers. A close contact of mine has a fiance that works for PCI out of St.Michael. He was not on this crew today but works for the same company. His groomsman was however. They take a break from 4-6pm for rush hour. He made it back off in time but over half of their crew was walking back on to the bridge when it went down. All but one are accounted for as of an hour ago. I can’t imagine. My heart goes out to all.

Prayers going out for all those people….wow is all I can say….many people flocking to the dome to Watch the Twins, people going home from work, a school bus load of kids coming back from swimming

Many heroes today…did anyone see the footage of bystanders jumping in the river to help save people…

    God bless everyone involved

Was that the bridge above the honk your horn spot??

I don’t even know what to say. Just sad in this day and age of technology. My families heartfelt thoughts go out to all involved as wells as the families and friends.

I would also like to thank everyone that helped in the recovery, rescue and treatment of all involved.

Channel 5 reported some of the findings of the 06 inspection that there was some stress cracks and buckling and to monitor it. Not good.

Oh I see that was the bridge next to it.

Thoughts and prayers to those involved. Very un-nerving when looking at the spans underside and supports.
Here is a look at the supports. All four of them supporting the crossing span of 458 feet?!
I don’t know how this bridge could support 141,000 cars a day with 4 supports like that. That’s just scary! Look here..

I am praying for everyone tonight. I am hoping for the best, bracing for the situation to become worse before better. There aren’t a lot of visible cars in the pictures, especially when you hear people describing the traffic at the time as being bumper to bumper. It really hit me when I went to the BBC website and we are the top story.

    God speed.
