    Hi Everyone…
sorry its been so long since Ive really been around here.. after the death of my daughter I guess I just kind of dropped out of things for a while.. but I thought you might like to know yesterday it was announced that I had won a BIG photo contest with over 25,000 entries from all over the world.. I was pretty shocked… here is their press release…

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
7/26/2007 Photographer kenn christensen of dresser, wi, has won Grand Prize for June in the prestigious photography contest sponsored by BetterPhoto.com, the site’s founder, Jim Miotke, announced Thursday.

More than 25200 entries were submitted to the online photography contest, which attracted contestants from around the world and featured 10 separate categories.

christensen’s stunning image, “Those Eyes”, garnered top honors after being submitted in the Animals category.

All of the winning images can be viewed at BetterPhoto.com’s contest page:

The contest is conducted each month. Categories include Nature and Landscapes, Animals, People, Elements of Design, Digital Darkroom, Travel and Place, Flowers, Details and Macro, Catch-All, and Monthly Theme. Judging is performed by a panel of professional photographers.

Congrats!!! So, do you enter a raw image in these contests or is there also some artistic work done prior to submitting?? Seems like there are two sides to the photography world. Having the eye to capture the moment, but also the artistic ability to “clean” the photograph up. Obviously you have both based on previous posts here!!!

The Contest I won allows a certain amount of work to be done.. in the catagory I entered the end result must look natural.. I did not do much manipulation of this shot… If I remember correctly I cloned out a couple of distracting branches.. though it would have been in the bg and pretty much not noticeable… but yeah.. Im quite capable of practically manufacturing a shot if I want to… I just dont get much satisfaction out of that….
and sadly.. there is NOT much money in winning these contests… though I usually means I sell more prints.. I think the prize is a professional website (which I can sure use)… worth around $200/year….. also.. Im once again artist of the month at the Stillwater Artists guild.. and I will be displaying there in august.. there WILL be a meet the artist day… but I dont have the date worked out yet… soon though….
