Steve and JackieJuly 27, 2007 at 3:39 pm #594651WOW! Thanks guys. VERY much appreciated. All went well and nothing had spread and all cancer is removed they feel. They removed the prostrate, semenal sacs and lympthnodes. The lympnodes is where it spreads to first and they were negative. They freeze them for 72 hours after removed and test them again and I will get the results of that next Tuesday but they are sure there will be no cancer. I did everything I had to to pass so I could get out early and ended up sleeping most of yesterday as I was plain worn out from it. Should be back to work in a month but will start doing some pricing out of job tickets next week at home for a couple hours each day. Thanks for all the prayers guys. My regular Doc handpicked my surgen and the team of staff people I had were great. I could see the Lords hands in this since the beginning which is the reason I felt good about going through it. I consider myself blessed as the cancer was found early. Otherwise I could of been dead in a couple of years so I am very greatfull. Still gotta ALOT of time to spend with my kids, grandkids, you guys and get in alot more fishing yet.
Thanks, BillJuly 27, 2007 at 5:23 pm #594709hi Bill,
Thanks for the update, as many folks here were praying and hoping for your speedy recovery,
and
Congrats on getting all that done quickly and with GREAT results..Better have some someone tell the ZUMBRO fish population that BILL IS BACK IN TOWN..
Way to GO, BILL
take things slow the next couple of weeks.
Jack..July 27, 2007 at 10:19 pm #594835Thanks guys. Slow is certainly the way I will be going. Was on here for one hour this morning and being up that long wore me out to the point that I slept in my comfortable chair [real comfortable padded living room type chair] in the living room till now. Energy level is way down but thats to be expected anytime they cut internal organs out of you I guess. The way they operated on me, a newer way using a 7 million dollar robotic machine, cuts the time of off work to only 4 weeks instead of the normal 6 plus weeks. The surgens arms are the robots arms so to speak. There are also a team of surgical techs on each side of the table helping the surgen perform the operation. A scope is inserted in one of the 5 or so smaller slits put in you [instead of the normal one 8-10 slit to do the surgery] where the operated area inside me is very much enlarged on a screen so the Doctor has a very good view of what he is doing. It took 4 1/2 hours to do the surgery. Greg Vandemark, an IDA Field Staff person and guide on pool 4 out of Wabasha, Mn whom does fishing reports covering all of pool 4, works with my surgen but he got lucky and didn’t have to be on the first surgery team that morning so he didn’t have to bother with me. lol. Both my surgen and Greg have said that they have had great success the past two years with this new machine. Not all the surgens get to use this new machine. Theres a huge demand for it yet at 7 million dollars each Mayo only has a couple of them. Whenever you, men of course, have any checkups at a clinic have them do a PSA blood test when you get around 50 years of age each time you have a check up. This will show the Doc a number and if the number goes up any then its time to get a biopsy done of the prostrate. They say most men will get prostrate cancer by the time they are 69 years old. Ok, 69 huh, I’m only 55 so I figured no problem and that I can’t have it. BUT they didn’t say it will happen at 69. They just said before you reach 69. My cancer was found early so I am very lucky. They recovery period can last to up to 2 years to completely heal. And thats if I ”completely” heal. Most men will have gained back their ability to completely control their bladder within a year. Leakage can be a problem till then. Hopefully its only leakage. lol. And then theres the situation of an erection. Could take up to 2 years but shouldn’t as theres viagra and the pump. lol. Well guys, its still 100% better than dying from cancer. Alot more involved than I first thought but I’m not in charge here. HEs in charge and I felt very comfortable about this as I strongly believe the Lord sent me the right people at the right time to get this taken care of. Everything fell in place way to easily and was discovered early for it not to have HIS hands involved in it. I feel very blessed to have this found as early as it was and having everything fall in place like it did and I even had the greatest nurses I’ve ever had when being in the hospital for surgery. Everything went perfect and I felt very comfortable going through this as a result. Yes, the panfish on Lake Zumbro along with the walleyes at Lake City, will get a rest from me for now. But I will be back for the late summer fall bite for sure. I’ve even had people offer to carry me to their boat just to get me back out there on the water as quick as possible. With friends like that you can’t go wrong. The fish and I will meet face to face again Thanks to the Lord and the great people he sent my way to get this situation taken care of. Thanks everyone for your prayers and support. It has mean’t ALOT. Thanks.
Thanks, Billps. you will leave the hospital still being catherized guys but don’t let that bother you. Its only tempoary.

Seriously, thanks for the great write-up. You probably dont realize it but you may have just saved someone elses life on the forum here by telling your story and what you went through and what to expect afterwards. It is a warning for all the fellas here to watch out for them manly cancers that we dont talk about much. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see ya on the water soon. Get well.

That is exactly why I chose to share. I never would of thought about getting this stuff checked out if it wasn’t for having a VERY good regular doctor pushing me to be checked for it with biopsies as my PSA level kept raising. I never would of had that checked when my blood tests are done regularly either. And the thing that I learned from my room mate at the hospital was that when he had his biopsies done his clinic never found cancer. Luckily his wife insisted that they be sent to Mayo also to be checked as Mayo found cancer on both sides of the prostrate. Hes from a town in Iowa that doesn’t have the kind of equipment that Mayo has so it didn’t show up. That would of cost him his life. Most men will get this cancer so its not a question of will they but a question of WHEN. So be sure and have a PSA blood test done regularly. If my going through this and sharing about it can help save just one life then its worth it.
Thanks, BillAugust 4, 2007 at 2:10 pm #596909Had my return visit this week and the cather was removed. The double check of the lymph nodes showed NO CANCER. Again . They do a PSA blood test every 3 months for the first year, every 6 months for the 2nd year, and once a year after that to make sure cancer doesn’t come back and they are painless. Still can only sit on a computer desk chair even with a pillow on it for an hour and then have to stay off for a few hours. Gets pretty sore sitting there still. Thighs and stomach and the one on the right [ ] is still swollen but am doing good. Considering the alternative of not having surgery I’m doing GREAT. Will take some time to completely heal BUT guys its completely VERY worth it. Some pain, less of it with this new style of surgery, lets you know you are ALIVE. And that means ALOT more family time and fishing time. Life is good, the Lord is GREAT and I’m still around to pester ya. Have a GREAT day, Catch some fish, and Report back on the site how you caught em. We ALL learn from each others sharing.
Thanks, Bill
